We will risk our lives alot for a savable Life.
We will risk our lives a little for savable Property.
We will not risk our lives for unsavable Life or Property.
Some people say your not for real, you're just a volunteer,
But when the fire is raging, you fight what they most fear.
When the alarm sounds, you risk it all and lay it on the line,
And often all you hear is the taxpayer complain and whine.
While people flee, you rush in, to this there is no doubt,
You are doing the same as the ones who are paid; you are putting the fire out.
Hot and smoky houses, or fires raging on the plain,
These are only a few examples of the emergencies you contain.
Things have changed, people say "thanks!" appreciation is everywhere,
It just too bad it took such a tragedy for them to finally care.
You do this on your own time, risking your life you're always here,
Don't ever be ashamed to tell those people, that you're a volunteer
At 3am, wheather Rain or snow,
when the pager sounds, they always go,
Leaving their family, to stand in harm's way,
Always knowing that they may not return on this day,
Giving loved ones a kiss, then off to the call,
They fight to the end, they give it their all,
Whether helping a stranger, a relative or friend,
You can always count on them until the very end,
Father and sons, sisters and brothers,
They do it all, just to help others,
Grass fires have come, both large and small,
And when a house is on fire, they answer the call,
They help those people, who have medical need,
They rush to car wrecks with the swiftest of speed,
From the coldest dark night, to the hottest summer day,
They do this all, with out one cent of pay,
Hundreds of people, for Thirty-four years,
There are your neighbors, They are Riley County Fire Volunteers.
