On Saturday night at the Mashantucket Peqout
Casino The flamboyant Prince Nasim Ahmad delighted
everyone with his signature boxing style except
Sanchez who was bloodied, bruised and taken out on
a stretcher.
Who was to know that on Sunday, on a day as
crisp as the crease on Umpire
Joshuas pants we would witness Mohammad
Khan aka Moka exhibit an innings of shear class,
filled with jabs, cuts, hooks and thundering
wallops that would send Norwalk Cricket Club
bleeding, bruised and on a 4x4 back on I-91 South.
This year the cricket unlike the weather is hotly contested and the top teams are neck to neck. Norwalk which included some ex- Greenwich stalwarts Tony Forbes and Tony Boyke and ex-Demarara CC of NY veteran Andy Lawrence. Norwalk won the toss and elected to bat on a fine pitch. RCC Captain Sheikh Mohammad aka the Guru tossed the ball to the twin towers of RCC Taj Khadar aka Funnboy and Dhraval Chokshi aka Chucky. Both Funnboy and chucky were on target with some menacingly accurate bowling. The Norwalk openers were cautious and were patiently negotiating the twin towers. The game was tightly poised as no side was giving up any slack. However, Norwalk opener Everton in an effort to move the score skied a FunnBoy lifter towards extra cover and Raj Rai aka Hoopah took a brilliant catch and exhibited perfect technique, that would make any coach cream. RCC was set 113 to win in 37 overs, not a very formidable task but nevertheless we are talking cricket and with the recent dismal performance of West Indies in England (61 all out in a test.come on!) I guess anything is possible. RCC openers JC Ballie and Sheikh Mohammad were unable to provide a good start and both were gone early. Panic started to set in as league leading Tony Kallicharan was dimssed for a duck while attempting to pull and sending the ball straight to mid-wicket and into the safe hands of Ennis. The initail rounds went to Norwalk as RCC was wobbling at 24 for 3. The fight had become intense as both RCC batsman Moka and Shannon were digging in deep in their corner and fighting back with jabs, cuts and occasional combinations. As the RCC innings began to stabilize and their legs gained strength. Moka realized that now it was time to go on the offensive and put the hurt on. As the bell rang and the Heineken girl waved the card for the 15th over. Moka went on a rampage and started the onslaught by slamming Talinki for 12 runs in his first over, Ferris for a thundering and probably the biggest six ever hit at the Riverside Savannah. Enis who had bowled 3 consecutive maidens, in his 4th over was hit for 26 runs by Moka which included 4 thundering sixes, one which went into the parking lot and nearly broke the windshield on Nooranis Lexus GS 400. The final knock out punch was a six by Shnanon and Norwalk failed to get up on the full count and Umpire Joshua signaled that it was all over. Yes Yes Yes was the shout from the dance hall queens on the side line who were orgasmically thrilled to see Moka put his long wood to task. All in all Moka was not out at 72 which included 7 sixes and 2 fours, Shannon had made a sharp and intelligent 20 not out. Both were involved in a 98 run fourth wicket partnership. It was power batting at its best with Moka Khan savaging the leather, receiving $300.00 for his matching winning performance. Riverside on a roll. Until next time Funnboy say Party on and stay ire.
