When will there be
a rain free weekend, that is the question on
everyone thoughts. So far in the recent weeks
the conditions have been like a car wash . But
luckily for these two teams the rain stopped
just in time for a rain reduced match to get
going. Riverside and Falcon CC was eager to
get down to business, both side keen on taking
victory from the other. It was definitely a
moist and humid day, but there was plenty of
towels and Gatorade to keep the fellas alert.
The toss
was won by
Riverside, and they decided to send
Falcon CC in to bat on a simi-dry pitch, but
was soon dry with the assistance of the famous
Mr. Quick Dry. Sending Falcon CC in was a
brilliant decision as the conditions became
much easier for the team batting second, but
before the game started the honorable and most
knowledgeable Umpire Ivor D Mitchell brought
out the rules and explained in detail the
specifics of this over reduced game to both
Captains, I must say the Umpire did a
great job in controlling the game. Finally the
game was officially on at 3pm. under the eyes
of Ivor Mitchell
Falcon CC
Batting: Falcons being the virgins of
the league in 2000 sent in there opening pair
and both batsman looked very relaxed as if
they had some the previous night. Openers
Imran Ali the Trini Posies and his Aussie
partner N. Zigouras both looked solid facing
the Rcc bowlers, they negotiated Ashok and
Chokshi successfully scoring one and two here
and there, but that was about it, both batsman
became a little too defensive for this reduced
over game and did not take advantage of some
lose balls, but was seen busy with their own.
Riverside Captain made the required bowling
change and brought in Taj Khadar the original
fun king, who immediately deliver the goods,
having Zigouras playing at an inswinger, only
able to get a portion of the bat to ball,
but he was unfortunate as the ball went easily
into the hands of Mahadeo Ajodhi the part time
Rcc keeper, Zigouras was gone for a straight
batting 11. He was replace by A. Ali who did
not last long, he was gone faster than a free
meal, as Khadar bowled him, spreading all
stumps to the ground, Ali managed to add 4
runs to the Falcon cause. While all this was
happening the Trini Possie Imran was still
calm and looking as GQ as ever with his
pressed and pleated trousers, but his time of
looking good not only with the bat in the
middle was soon coming to an end as Captain
Ballie tossed the ball to the red hearing
Navin Bodenarain, who was more than eager to
get rid of Imran Ail, Navin send down a toe
crushing yorker and Imran played all over
everything except the ball, but it was too
late as the leather came in contact with his
toes in line of the middle stumps, with a pro
active appeal from Rcc Imran was judged LBW,
he was gone after scoring a beautiful 13.
Jamil Nasir came
in but got the same treatment from Khadar, he
was going for a fence clearing shot, but guess
what he missed the ball and again with the
moving delivery, all stumps was on the ground,
he was gone after scoring 4. With this
wicket, Khadar was emotionally excited, proclaiming
beers on him for everyone, even the expense
stuff, the top shelf Coors Yeah hope he
doesn't get 4 scalps the next game. The Rcc
players may get a cheaper beer. In came Amar
Ali, this guy was on from ball one going at
everything, he even got air from swinging and
missing, but he kept the Riverside gang on
alert, always looking to score and this he
did, playing some gloriously positive strokes
all over the ground, but he was soon put in
the danger zone as the ace spinner for Rcc,
thats the man Raj Rai, who was spinning the
ball tremendously, enough so that Amar miss
judged his shot selection and provided a
simple catch to Ballie, Amar Ali was all
done for another 13 runs. The only other
players that got to bat was S. Verma scoring
9. A. Birla adding 7 and M. Verma with an
interesting 1. Falcon CC managed to score 68,
will this be a tough ask for the Boys from the
River, you never know.
Riverside
CC Batting: JC
Ballie and Mahadeo Ajodhi went out to attack
the Falcon total but by the second over Ballie
was given out LBW without scoring. In came the
man in good touch, Tony Kallicharan who
treated the fans to a batting display, that
maybe Lara on a good day could match. Tony
played with ease and belted and harass
the ball all over the ground with his partner
in crime Ajodhi, who is not know for looking
pretty while slamming the ball, Ajodhi was
content to play second fiddle to Tony, but
Ajodhi got into the act and wallop a few to
the ropes. With Ajodhi getting restless in the
middle he went for a mother of all shots but
was bowled, his score for Rcc was a scary 13,
whats up with everyone getting out at 13.. Is
jason around.. thats the guy from the movie
Friday the 13th maybe we should call it Sunday
the 13th..
The next Rcc
batsman to enter the party was Mohamad Khan
but he did not stick around even to get a
chance to use Right Guard Spray he was bowled
going forward to a seaming delivery. He added
noting to the Rcc Cause. Shannan Ragnauth came
in and with Tony they added the required runs
to secure victory for Rcc. Tony ended the day
with an entertaining 36 and Shannan scored a
supporting 9. Riverside accomplish the
required runs in 12.2 over.
This reporter is
certain that Falcon will be looking for
revenge the next time the face off against the
boys from the River, thankfully the weather
held up until the end and the game was
completed. Who knows what's in store for next
week, will it snow or rain.
Until then Nuff
Respect and Peace with ya all
Kya
yahan koi angrazi bolta hai?
