BODY AND PAINTING
SUPPLIES: Soap (dish washing liquid); water; pencil: paper towels or clean cloth; 3M general masking tape; EXACTO knife; paint (see Painting Tips); S.O.S. pads or fine steel wool; fine point permanent marker; denatured alcohol (available at hardware stores).

PREPARATION TIPS: 1. Wash the inside of the body with soap and water. 2. Rinse out all of the soap and dry thoroughly with a paper towel or clean cloth. 3. Locate the window templates and place them on the inside of the body using the window lines as guides. 4. Check the edges of the window templates to ensure that they are firmly adhered to the body. 5. Very lightly scuff the surfaces to be painted with steel wool or SOS pads. Avoid scuffing the windows and areas you dont plan to paint. MASKING GRAPHICS / TIPS: a) Take your time. b) Use 3M general-purpose masking tape or other high quality tape. c) Overlap tape. d) Use a sharp craft EXACTO knife.

PREPARATION TIPS (Cont.): 6. Sketch your design on the outside of the body using permanent marker. 7. Place a strip of tape on the inside of the body over the area of your graphics, overlap tape if the one strip is not large enough for your design. Be sure to follow the contours of the body closely and make sure there are no air bubbles under the tape. 8. Hold the body up to a bright light illuminate your exterior design and using a pencil, copy your design onto the taped areas of the body. If this is your first attempt at graphics, make the design simple. Save more complex ideas and designs until you have completed a simple design successfully. 9. With an EXACTO knife cut out the design you have drawn on the tape. Time and care should be used to ensure clean lines. You may need to experiment with the right amount of pressure you need to apply to the knife to cut the tape without marring the body. 10. Using a pencil, write the paint colors you plan to use in the cutouts on the tape.

PAINTING TIPS: 1. Paint dark to light, beginning with your darkest color and ending with the lightest. When using spray cans, spray three light coats of paint rather than one or two thick coats. This will reduce bleeding under the tape as well as chipping of the paint on impact. 2. Submerging paint (bottle or can) in warm water will make the paint spray better and dry faster. DO NOT heat paint in oven or microwave and use only warm (not hot) water as paint is highly combustible. 3. Back dark and candy colors with silver paint. 4. Back fluorescent and bright colors with white. 5. Black does not need to be backed.

PREPARATIONS TIPS (Cont.): 11. Carefully seal the edges of the cut areas of your design using your fingernail, ensuring all edges are completely adhered to the body. Paint a light coat of the darkest color in your design and allow it to dry completely before recoating When dry, recoat two more time being sure to allow adequate drying time between coats. 12. Back paint using the key in Painting Tips. 13. Peel off the masked portion for your next color and continue to paint each color, taking the necessary drying time between coats, back coats, and colors. 14. When all paint is dry, remove window templates. 15. Using denatured alcohol remove any over spray, residue and design sketches from the outside of the body. 16. Detail the body using decals, permanent markers, and paint pens as desired. Carefully trim the body edges a little at a time. Now you can mount your hot look and give it a track test!
SHOCKS
The four shocks on the model greatly influence its handling. Whenever you
rebuild your shocks, or make any changes to the pistons, springs or oil,
always make changes to them in pairs (front or rear). Piston selection depends
on the range of oil viscosities that you have available. For example, using a
two-hole piston with a lightweight oil will, at one point, give you the same
dampening as a three-hole piston with heavier oil. We recommend using the
two-hole pistons with a range of oil viscosities from 10W to 50W (available
from your hobby shop). The thinner viscosity oils (30W or less) flow more
smoothly and are more consistent, while thicker oils provide more
dampening. Use only 100% pure silicone shock oil to prolong seal life.
The model's ride height can be adjusted by adding or removing the
clip-on, spring pre-load spacers. Adjust the ride height so that the suspension
arms are slightly above being parallel to the ground. Observe how the model
handles in turns. Proper setup will add stability and help prevent spin outs.
Experiment with different springs and shock oils to find what works best for
your current track conditions.
