In woods class a student learns to use traditional Japanese hand drills. It takes more work to spin this and drill a hole, but it is very effective. |

At Kanoaka there is a special needs class and I played Santa to give the students presents from their teachers. There are 17 children in this ungraded class. They do learn English and all the regular subjects. |

This is the first school I have seen that offers gymnastics. Girls are working on a routine where they throw a ball high in the air, do a cart wheel and catch the ball. I could tell this was not easy to accomplish. As in all clubs, this one has girls who are just begining and the three year experienced girls too. There was no coach around to direct, but the did extremely well. |

Judo club is a lot like wrestling, however, both boys and girls practice together. In judo, you are allowed to grab clothing to aid in the throw. Above, the team leader scores the throw with a rear ankle kick out. This 12 member club does have a non-teaching coach who is very good himself. Practice is almost all drills and repetitions of throws. It looked like a well organized wrestling practice. These students practice year around but the first competition is next April. |
