Legacy Project

During my student teaching at Tom Moore High School in Ingram, Texas, I undertook a legacy project. There was a rock path constructed many years ago that spans from the road to Mr. Harris' classroom. This is a wonderful place to have a walkway but there were a few problems with it.

First, it was constructed primarily of large rocks. These rocks were not all the same size or shape and had large spaces in between them. It was very difficult to walk smoothly along the path with out having to watch each step and not trip. Also, since there were such large spaces, when it rained it got very muddy in between the rocks.

So, my goal was to remove the old path and make a new one that was more functional.

The first step was removing the old rocks. Next. we smoothed out the ground to make it more level. We also pulled the soil away from the building where it was starting to rust the metal. nest we laid down new gravel. The last step was to even out the walkway and we were done!

I chose to use the red gravel to replace the rocks because it was easily laid down and made a smooth path. It also is excellent at draining quickly, that way students will not be muddy when they step into Mr. Harris' class.

All of my classes were able to participate at some point in this project.
