The artist brings life of The Bahamas through his eyes, with an explosion of colour, texture and form.
Ricardo talks much more about the luminosity of his paintings, expressing his ability to capture the dazzling sunlight that we associate in the tropics. His turquoise and emerald greens in the seascapes, light, reflection and structure, depth of colour at the same time captures the ambiance and mood of each chosen scene.
Texture and design play an important part in Ricardo's world, it means rough particles on a smooth surface, or thick layers of opaque paint to give a dimension of sculpture.
On figure painting; Ricardo feels the need to use a figure in his paintings of landscapes, seascapes and figuritive painting, because it adds the ultimate element in giving each subject full meaning, also it identifies with the time in history and the region.
This method holds through in painting landscapes, trees that breath life or trees with light at the same time. For example, the red poinciana of our Caribbean, it must be painted simple, yet carry the weight of having all the elements and details, it might be seen from a distance or close to function as a living bouquet.
