Speed Trap
This is an easy and quick way to estimate the speed of your
boat, we use this method and it works for us.
- Mark two spots, point A, then point B that is 100 feet
away from point A.
- Drive your boat at top speed, when the top speed is
reached go by point A then to point B.
- With a stopwatch, count the time for the boat to travel
from point A to B.
- Cross reference that time in seconds with the following
chart to obtain the average speed travelled through the
speed trap.

The top speed is calculated with the following formula
:
100 feet / number of seconds X 3600 / 5280 = mph
If the boat is at top speed while travelling from
point A to B, and the stopwatch operator is accurate, it will
give you an accurate top speed.
