Pronuncation of Final -ed
Some regular verbs ending in -ed
finish with a pronounced /t/ sound,
as in the verb worked. Others end with a /d/ sound, as in the word planned. Yet others end with an
/id/ sound, as in the verb needed.
The change in pronunciation depends on how the words end - whether they
follow voiceless sounds, voiced sounds or a /t/ or a /d/. This general
rule may usually* be applied to other classes of words ending in –ed, too.
