MEETING NEWS
I didn't receive the June Newsletter so this is the
current issue.
For the next three months, our secretary is taking a well-earned break. Please let me know if you do not receive your newsletter or if you have
something you wish to have printed in the newsletter. My name is Betty McDonald and you may reach me by calling 782-0904 or emailing me
at [email protected].
Many of our members have taken advantage of the club’s recent activities. For those of you that were not able to join in, you may wish to tour
the club’s new photo album. Jesse and Charlotte Thomas donated a photo album complete with pictures that Jesse had taken of our recreation
department cook-out, the Gary Biggerstaff horsemanship clinic and also of the most recent trail class clinic. We all hope that Jesse will
continue as the club’s photographer. Thanks guys.
We want to thank Greg and Kim Willis for providing wonderful accommodations for the Gary Biggerstaff clinic. Their barn is fantastic! Gary
Biggerstaff is certainly a man with “the touch” when it comes to horses and we all enjoyed gaining insight into the horse’s mind. Those who
chose to audit the clinic got some unexpected entertainment. Bet the Willis’s never thought their ring would become a bronc-riding arena!
Special thanks also go to the Thompson’s and the Willis’s for donating additional slots that were needed to make the clinic a success.
Jane Brewer provided the trail class clinic at the recreation department riding arena. Thanks to Dwayne Thompson’s talents, the class included
a wooden bridge. Jane also offered the use of one of her well-trained horses. Charlotte Thomas was nice enough to supply entrants with a
very professional looking booklet containing information on how to construct and design your own trail class course. When Ann Neal asked
for another clinic, Jane graciously agreed to provide the clinic if the club would provide the landscaping timbers. Thank you, Jane, for all the
hard work you donated in transporting the obstacles, setting up the course and providing instruction. We look forward to your next
clinic!
IN SHOW NEWS
The GA Mountain Saddle Club Association (GMSCA) has scheduled our first show for October 19, 2002. Due to the ongoing construction at
the recreation department, this may prove to be a bit of a challenge. Currently the water and electric are disconnected and it will also be youth
football season. We have been told to expect 350-400 entries; their last show had 405 entries. Valerie Addicott and Jim Adams are going to
contact the recreation department and present a pamphlet on our most recent activities and our future plans
for use of the riding arena. Hopefully, the county will appreciate our needs and work with us to make this GMSCA show a success.
Again, due to the construction it looks like we will need to postpone our September Fun Show until November. Unfortunately, this means that
we will not have a practice show before we are to host our first association show.
Be looking for information regarding the planned St. Jude Benefit Ride in our next newsletter. The planning information suggests that we start
six weeks in advance of the event, so stay tuned in.
Timpson Creek donated the door prize for this month’s meeting. Kathy Ellis was the lucky winner of a beautiful pillow featuring, what else, a
horse! Congratulations to Kathy and thanks to Timpson Creek for providing the prize.
