Minutes of Meeting –
April 9, 2002 Cecile Thompson called the meeting to order at 7:35 p.m. The minutes of March’s meeting were read by Kim Willis. Valerie Addicott motioned to accept the minutes as read; seconded by Robin York. Rebecca Camboia presented the treasurer’s report citing $80 deposits and $152.69 in expenses in the operating account, bringing the balance to $876.87. The scholarship fund received $8.03 in interest, bringing the balance to $1,089.60. Kim Willis motioned that the treasurer’s report be accepted; seconded by Robin York. Prior to the business portion of the meeting, new members were welcomed to the club – Ann Doss, Debra "Sissy" Dockins and Valerie Speed.
Old Business Rebecca stated that she had spoken to Whetstone regarding the St. Jude’s ride. Which then prompted considerable discussion about group size, associated costs, etc. Sissy Dockins agreed to gather some information for using the Joe Speed location for the ride and would report at the next meeting. Sissy volunteered to be a trail boss for the ride. The membership voted on Saturday, September 28th as the date of the ride. Kim Willis reported that Patti Denike had spoken with Gary Biggerstaff and he advised that the 8th, 15th or 22nd of June were open dates for scheduling a clinic. The cost of participation for a horse/rider is $85.00 and spectators are $20.00 per person. His minimum requirement is 8 horse/riders (with a maximum of 15) and unlimited spectators. Kim Willis offered the use of her barn and to coordinate the details of the seminar. As a reminder, the seminar will be offered first to riding club members and then to the public. Discussion regarding the Recreation Center Auction was plentiful; however, Cecile motioned that further discussion be tabled until better attendance at fun shows would warrant such an event; Kim seconded. Ballots were collected for the revised by-laws issue. A tally of the votes indicate that the revisions suggested were passed unanimously. Valerie Addicott agreed to check out Mama G’s and La Cabana to determine if they would be suitable locations for future meeting sites. Valerie also reported that baseball games are scheduled from May 4 – July 14 this year so any fun shows would have to be scheduled after 4:00 p.m. She stated that there are two new baseball fields on the upper level that were part of Phase I of the improvements. And, here’s the neat part…..the new agricultural facility is part of Phase 2!!!! Which means, in November we all need to vote for the SPLOST. This will help generate the revenues needed to fund the new facility. Being in Phase 2 is much more aggressive that we originally anticipated, so we really need to support it.
New Business Cecile spoke with Mr. Cabe at the high school to obtain suitable scholarship recipients. He said that he did not feel that he had any candidates at this time. Cecile suggested that we continue to contribute to Carrie Coleman’s education (the student we donated to last year), and Jane Brewer mentioned the possibility of an equine special Olympic candidate. Jane will bring additional information to the May meeting and members will be given the opportunity to vote on how they wish to distribute the funds this year. Valerie brought up the subject of pointed shows and the classes needed (halter, equitation, barrel, walk/trot for youth under 17) and her willingness to maintain records for points, determine rules, and to even conduct a "showmanship" clinic open to all. Further discussion will be required in the future; however, Valerie will bring her recommendations to future meetings. Charlotte Thomas agreed to serve on the show committee with Valerie, Barbara, and Ann. Thank you, Charlotte! With no new business to discuss, Cecile motioned that the meeting be adjourned; Betty McDonald seconded and the meeting ended at 9:17 p.m. Next meeting is Ma7 14, 2002 at 7:30p.m. |
