Tamyia S-10 Review
The setup i have is the first TowerHobbies ultimate combo deal but with the pirhana peak charger instead of the timed charger. i also have 3 batts.
This truck took me around 7 hours to build and was my first kit. the directions are VERY straigh forward and go step-by-step with not too much and not too little in each step. The rear ball diff needs to be sinched to work well off-concrete, and the front one-way diff just wasnt made for off-
roading but will suffice if youve got momentum. the car is a quite a bit longer than wide but still handles very well in most conditions. im using the MSC and stock motor and it's got great acceleration and good power. the plastic bearings are a bit of a ripoff, but they work if you put enough grease on them. the front/rear drive assembly detatch from the car in under 5 minutes with only a screwdriver, but are held firmly and securely for off-road bashing. This truck is a good little jumper and will do its fair share of jumping, but hits the front skid plate often and bottoms out even more often than that. it's a GREAT climber (it will climb a near vertical drainage ditch slope) and looks as cool as a tmaxx when it wipes out off a jump. the body posts are extremely weak, but i run mine without the body either way. it's got decent speed(around 13-15 mph on a full pack) and gets to that speed in no time flat. The tires are beefy and will last a long time (they have flexible sidewalls so the white lettering comes off easilly, but thats the only wear i can see so far) i will admit, i dont like the MSC, and since ive nearly DESTROYED the resistor(running without a body and broken posts)ill be upgrading to an ESC asap...
there are only a few things that bug me about this car... first being the plastic bearings, tamiya couldnt include an extra $5 forth of materials? second, the steering system is relatively inefficient and binds easilly when a high-torque or long-travel servo is used... third, there arent any metal parts, all plastic with the acception of the driveshafts and motor... fourth, my little sister always wants to drive it, not a good thing, as that results in broken parts...
Overall, this car is really cool... its a great beginner car, easy to take apart and fix and hard to break... fun to run, hard to stop, nuthin better...
If you want to race, get an HPI SNR or HPI rally and have fun at your local track, but if you'd like a neat car to mess around with and just zoom and jump, then this if for you... i spend a total of $263 with priority shipping...good deal if you ask me.
