6th Grade Art
The sixth graders will be learning about the elements of formal design this year. They will start the year by discussing what they think ART is, and we will look at how your brain functions differently in art class than in many other classes. They will work with lines and shapes and do some experimental drawing to train them to be more creative thinkers. Theyll look at how the brain affects what they see and how they see it - color can change and trade places and can even appear out of a black and white image. They will also watch a couple videos on the lives of the impressionist artists, Edgar Degas and Mary Cassatt. They will be working with 3-dimensional form, learning about clay and the art of coil formed pottery building.

7th Grade Art
The seventh graders will be learning about the arts of Asia this year. They will write Haiku poetry, and learn a little about Chinese Kanji letters. Theyll learn how to calligraph using a calligraphy pen that is dipped into a bottle of ink. They will use this skill to write out their haiku in calligraphy and then added decoration to the project.
They will be learning about block printing and the art of Japanese linoleum-block printmaking.
They will also watch videos about the lives of the painters Rembrandt and Monet and will finish out the year with a slab pottery project made out of clay.

8th Grade Art
The 8th grade will spend the year in art learning about 3-d linear perspective drawing. This is an art technique that even those with limited drawing ability can use to improve their drawing skills. They will study one and two point perspectives and will culminate their experience by drawing an area of the building. They sit in the hallway and draw what they see in front of them in perspective. Its always amazing to see how much they all improve in drawing.
Along the way there will be time to see a couple art history videos on the lives of Goya and Winslow Homer. They will finish out the year with a ceramics project of their choice
