| My expectations for your behavior in high school are a little different than they were when you were in middle school. I have no absolute set of rules and guidelines set in stone and posted in the room for you to follow. As you reach high school, and start that approach to adulthood, its my feeling that you should already know the rules and be able to follow them without a constant reminder in front of you. You are not issued a large golden handbook explaining all the laws and rules and how to follow them to become a responsible and productive citizen on your 18th birthday. You just have to know what is right and what is not, and do your best to do the right thing. You have to think about your actions and what the consequences of those actions are all the time.
I have high expectations for your positive, mature, and responsible behavior in my class. Dont let me down. With that said, here are a couple of things that some of us seem to forget throughout the year and that bear reminding once again. NO POP OR FOOD IN CLASS This is of course a school handbook rule that is in force throughout the school. You are allowed gum or mints or Jolly Rancher type hard candy in class as long as it is not a disposal problem. Leave your pop etc. in your locker. If I see it, I will confiscate and destroy it. KEEP YOUR LANGUAGE AND CONVERSATIONS APPROPRIATE FOR SCHOOL There are many places where any kind of language or conversation topics is appropriate. School is not one of these places. You need to use discretion in your language and choice of topics in class. My wife likes to use the grandma test I think that the church test also works. If your language is not appropriate to use in front of my grandma or in my church, then its probably not appropriate for my classroom either. DO YOUR HOMEWORK AT HOME Dont disrespect my class (and me) by bringing in homework from other classes to work on in here. My class work is just as important as the other classes work, and if you dont believe that you shouldnt be in here. You should have more than enough work to do in here without working on homework. If you dont, then you need to see me to find out what to do. If you need study hall time take a study hall instead! NO RADIO/TAPE/CD/MP3 PLAYERS These are of course forbidden in class along with handheld games and other electronic toys. Cell phones are permitted (for now) as long as they are turned off and are put away. If I see these things out, I will confiscate them immediately and you can come in after school to pick them up in the office. BOOK BAGS/WATER Water is allowed into classrooms in clear plastic bottles, as long as it does not become a nuisance or a toy. Book bags are no longer allowed in classrooms leave them in your locker please. ATTENDANCE Once you enter this classroom you will not leave it again until the bell rings - for any reason! If you are late, without a pass, you are tardy. Bring whatever you may need for class with you and do drinks and the restroom on the way. If you need something for a project, you will have to just wait and remember to bring it next time to work on it. These rules are not just something that I made up to make your life miserable. These are school handbook rules! Violation of these rules will result in immediate sanctions from me, including confiscation of forbidden or inappropriate items, detention time and possible removal from my class. Multiple removals can result in your being dropped from this class completely and placed into a study hall. |
