WEEKLY ART HOMEWORK JOURNAL

The following homework assignments are due each Friday (or the last day of the week when we do not attend on Friday).
These are to be done in this sketchbook and then kept together as a record of the work you have completed for the entire semester.

Your weekly journal will describe the work that you completed during the week and give you a chance to reflect on accomplishments and make plans for next week.

At the very top is a place to circle the week number, from 1 to 8.

The next section is for logging your daily activities in class. This is important because you will refer back to this section when you complete your quarterly evaluation and semester tests. Please write the date in beside the name of the day. Be specific in describing what you did each day and how long you worked on it.  For example:

MONDAY  16th :  Worked on my screen print. Got it stretched and the design
drawn onto it. I spent about 35 minutes stretching and then
wrote in my journal for the rest of the class.

Then there is a section for reflecting on your work and how well you met your goals that you set during the prior week. I will be looking for complete thoughts and specific examples. For example:

This week I worked on a silk screen print. It is a landscape with some houses and a tree. I began stretching my screen on Tues. and finished on Wednesday. I like to stretch the screen and think it is fun. Im having some trouble, though, figuring out which parts of the screen I want to paint in, and which parts to leave empty. I will think about it this weekend and maybe try a couple thumbnails in my sketchbook. My goal last week was to get the screen all stretched and some painting done, so I think I did a pretty good job of meeting my goal. I didnt get everything done because I ran into some problems while stretching the material.

The next section asks you to do some planning and to set a goal for next weeks class. Example:
Next week I will paint on my screen print. I will have worked out which parts to paint, and which parts to leave open, using some thumbnail sketches as a reference. I hope to get all of it painted.
I will need my thumbnail sketches, my screen print, and my paint and brushes.

Next it says,
Hey Mr. Byrd, I need you to do this for me next week.
This is a place to write me any notes. If you need me to get something for you to work on, or you need a special material to use, or just to remind me about something we discussed earlier.

On the back is a short self-evaluation for you to complete. There is also a similar, but more elaborate, evaluation that I fill out. Please complete your section.
