Where has the incentive gone?

In the four years I have been a member of the Red Bluff Highschool Marching Band, I have realized that there are always members who pull the weight of others.  There have always been that same group of people who participate in everything and give 100% in everything.  I also realize that this is a factor in the real world of our society, but my question lies in the fact that this group of people has grown smaller.  These people that give 100%  consistantly work to make our organization a better one.  Please do not think that I am referring to the leadership, because that isn't true in all cases.
I constantly hear members complain about how little we paricipate in and how they can't stand that we aren't a better, more advanced, band.  Yet not a single member that I have heard complain in such has taken an initiative to make it better.   The most motivated members are not the upper classmen as some would expect either.  As a matter of fact, I've heard many upper classmen discouraging the motivation of some students.  They say that there attempts to make a difference are "stupid" or "geeky".
Your leadership, your drum majors, and your director can only improve our situation as much as you are willing to improve it with them.  The belief that ten people can pull the weight of 70 needs to end before we can get any better.
What I ask of you as band parents, color guard members, and band members is to embrace the motivation and hard work of those people and take after them yourself.  Without them our organization would not be even as far as we are.  Before you complain next time, ask yourself if you are part of the group making it better.  If you are not, then you are part of the problem.
