What we do (in a nutshell):

As the High School's Marching Band, we are expected to perform at the football game's halftime show, play spirited songs during ralleys  and play pep band in the stands to excite the crowd.  We also march in the majority of the local parades to support out community throughout the year.  Generally, we travel to competitions in such places as Oroville, Reno, and Del Oro, to compete against both distant and local schools.

Color Guard:

The Color Guard travels with the band where ever they perform. The Guard are part of our show, but they also perform seperatly during school ralleys.
What exactly do they do?  Color Guard is a combination of dance and flag twirling.  They form rutines, combining these two factors, to coincide with the marching band's music.  Without them the band would be visually dull, despite the formations we execute during the music.

Rehearsals:

Rehearsals are mandatory.  Compared to a lot of bands, we get little rehearsal time.  Absences, without a sufficient excuse, during rehearsals can result in a penalty on their grade.
Summer Band Rehearsals (aka SBRs)  are the first opportunities that our organization gets to work with incoming members.  They are also the time when the band becomes aquianted with each other.  SBRs is a five day workshop (broken by a weekend)  dedicated to teaching the basics of marching to newcomers, reveiwing and perfecting the techniques of veterans, and uniting the band as a whole.  Color Guard is required to attend SBRs also.
After school starts, we meet every Tuesday night for three hours to learn, review and perfect, formations.  Suprisingly, these have become known as Tuesday Night Rehearsals.  Music is rehearsed in class and it is the responsibility of the band member to memorize his/her music on time.  We generally don't memorize in class.
* If you have any questions or comments about our organization, please contact us.  We are more than happy to help.
