Did you know that...
It took all of human history to reach a world population of 1 billion people in 1804. 123 years later, (1927) we broke 2 billion. 33 years later in 1960 we topped 3 billion, and 14 years after that, in 1974, we hit 4 billion. It only took 13 years to break 5 billion in 1987, and October 1999 we crossed the 6 billion milestone, (12 years since the previous billion).
Pop Quiz...
If the population continues to grow at this unprecedented pace, where are we going to live? Where will everything else live? Why are so many species becoming extinct? When we burn more and more oil (72 million barrels a day at present) to power more and more homes, cars, and businesses, where do the greenhouse gases go? Why is the weather so much different than it was when we were kids? When the weather is bad and we have more floods, droughts, and tornadoes, what happens to farmers crops. If crops are ruined what are we going to eat? Hmmmm...
