THE CLASS OF '80

By Kathleen Evans

Here's to the class of '80,
Oh we thought we were so cool,
When our biggest responsibility,
     Was showing up for school.

Here's to the class of '80,
Oh we thought we were so hip,
While at three kegger parties,
Tight jeans the boys tried to unzip.

We never heard of CD-ROM,
Or even a CD for that matter,
A virus came in the form of a cold,
Cured with a Flintstone Vitamin and water.

We knew Boston and Kansas were good bands,
    Not just places,
And the phrase '"disco sucks",
    Brought smiles to many faces.

It was the year we got to vote, give blood,
    And join the armed forces,
But some of us drank illegally,
According to some of my sources.

We were born during Kennedy's presidency,
And barely remember the first man on the moon,
We just missed being Gen X'ers
    By being born too soon.

We went to turnabout and prom,
Like it was the biggest deal on Earth,
And now 20 years later,
We wonder what it was worth.

Some of us cared about school,
And some of us did not,
Some graduated to be "yuppies",
And some just like to smoke pot.

So we made it through the 70's
Much like that show on FOX,
With lots of hair and belbottoms,
and really bad sitcoms to watch.

Here's to the class of '80'
    Raise your glasses high,
For the one thing we all have in common,
    Is Riverside-Brookfield High!
