The Guys
The guys who played the convicts in all of the yard scenes were primarily extras from the Santa Fe & Albuquerque area. They endured a surprisingly early 6 o'clock call time and seemingly endless 12 to 14 hour days on the set. Contrary to what some newspaper articles claimed, the extras that comprised the convict population in the film were NOT 60%  previous felons.  That was pure fabrication made by the newspapers.  The extras performed in a very professional manner bringing a great touch to the film.
