Update: 5/18/04 - Hi, it's me again! Got a personal message/update from Richard, and since it's covering a bunch of things, I'm not exactly sure where to put it all, so I'm just gonna slap it in the Update section until I can figure out where it all should go...
As far as I know, the debug code will not work with emulated version(s) of FFIII. This does not mean there is not another way to do this. Ive talked with a number of gamers during the past few days; one or more claim to have accessed some of the secret areas by using the Game Genie specifically, the secret area in the lower Narshe Mines. Now that Ive moved back home, I plan to start playing my SNES games again beginning with FFIII. A question for all who read this page: Doesnt it seem unusual that so many SquareSoft SNES games have undiscovered secrets buried in their programming? Perhaps this has something to do with the fact that the Japanese versions of these games were different than their U.S. counterparts and the secret areas were part of normal gameplay in the Japanese versions.
I finally managed to find a Snes Gamepak of Breath of Fire; by an amazing coincidence, this excellent RPG was a SquareSoft game! Should be lots of secrets in that game!
Finally, Chrono Trigger also has some secrets: at least two secret areas and one or more bonus scenarios. The one scenario I found (witnessed by my niece) was when Party entered the Blackbirds docking area in 12,000 B.C. Dalton sics two guards on Chrono and friends (Basher and Thrasher). Also, something triggered random enemey encounters in one of the Land Bridges; I took advantage of these encounters to build party to level 25 they have not been encountered since then!
It would be of great assistance to me if anyone with info about secrets (not found in strategy guides) for Chrono Trigger, Secret of Evermore, Breath of Fire, Breath of Fire II, Breath of Fire III (PS), Final Fantasy VII (PS) - or any other SquareSoft SNES and PS 1 and PS2 games would post this information on the comments, etc., page of this website.

There we go! Updated!

Update: 12/18/03 - Hi, webmistress/html coder girl here again! It's been a long time since we've *really, really* truly had an update. **Points down to heading of last update** Nothing *truly* new has occurred, in terms of the website, but I've added something onto the Lost Secrets section, it's just a small addition to the list of things you could achieve if in debug mode, programmer's version, whatever ya wanna call it... Also, we're so excited about the amount of hits we've had on the site! **Blinks wildly at page counter** I mean, I think someone hacked us or something just cuz I can't imagine us getting that many hits... A month ago there were 60, now there's like 760... Whoosh! I just wish whoever hits us would leave feedback! We love feedback! As long as it's not like, angry, angsty feedback... We is sensitive! Anyway, so yeah... Updated!

Update: 10/26/02 - Hello, the webmistress/html coder here, just thought I'd make a quick note of updates. Richard currently hasn't found much new in the FFIII secrets world, he tells me, however, that he feels he is very close to the key, as cryptic as it sounds. He's really working hard at cracking the code, but there's only so much FFIII a man can tolerate before his brain fries, so right now he's switching on and off between FFIII & Chrono Trigger. I just registered us for an email account at hotmail.com, which might be easier for contacting us instead of using the guestbook which is rather, shall we say neglected? o.O Anyway, the address is [email protected], it seems simple enough, no?
Anywho, that seems to be it.

Update 2: 7/12/02 - I finally talked with a different individual at Square Tech Support. After telling my story, he looked on the computer at Tech Support and told me there were two versions of FFIII(SNES) released in the U.S. - versions 1.0 and 1.1. According to him, version 1.1 came out about 2 months after the games initial release; version 1.1 was the version ported to Laser-Disk for the PlayStation (FFVI on the Anthology). He was unable to tell me the differences between the two versions. Game Haven in Knoxville, TN states that the first version of FFIII could be hacked with Game Genie I, but not with Game Genie 2. They believe that to be the difference between the two versions. Square Tech thinks that the "debug" code was removed from the 2nd version and that, possibly, so were the secret areas. However, that conflicts with what Nintendo told me several months ago; two different individuals at Nintendo told me that it was highly unlikely that a second version of FFIII was made for the SNES due to the cost of programming and manufacture. Is it possible that the differences between version 1.0 and version 1.1, since 1.1 was the version ported to CD for the PlayStation, were the added video and graphics? After playing FFVI, on the Anthology, I failed to notice any game elements different from the SNES version. As far as I can tell, nothing has been removed. That is another reason for needing the "debug" code for the SNES version - If those secrets are in the PS version, there is a way to access them! It may not be the same code, due to controller differences (holding down 'B' to Run), but - unless the secretas and/or access have been removed - there is a way in!

Update: 7/12/02 - I had finished the letter to my Congressman and was all set to mail it when I decided to give his office a call. Bad news; I learned the Freedom of Information Act doesn't apply to civilian corporations - it only applies to Federal Agencies. So where does that leave us? There are other avenues that can be taken if you want to get involved in the search for this information. All I ask is that you read the list of Secrets and then decide if you want to help. the best approach I see is to write and/or call Nintendo and Square about these things and ask for the information (the "debug" code). Another option would be to file a Class-Action suit against Nintendo and/or Square - depending on what legal counsel advises! The only other option I can see is that, with your help, we might be able to locate someone who has this information; I can't believe for one instant that I am the only one in the U.S. who knows about these Secrets of FFIII - and the secrets of FFVII (PS)! There must be others somewhere; I believe they can be found - but, I need your help to do this!
