Newmarket August 10th 2001

On Friday 10th August, 2001 at the Newmarket Racecourse, Suffolk, a concert was given by a group of 5 men.

Graham Gouldman,
Rick Fenn, Paul Burgess,
Spike Edney & Mick Wilson
were those men.

Rick Fenn
The stage was set up in the members enclosure (the main stand). As you can see by the photographs, the handrail was just at the wrong height from an audience point of view. It did mean that extra care had to be taken when setting up to take a photo.
Spike Edney Spike did very well, playing keyboards and guitar, as well as providing backing vocals.
The band (all evening during the races, the announcer continuously referred to them as 10cc) performed a total of 14 songs,
in a set that lasted just over an hour.

Mick Wilson A very talented guitarist/percussionist and an excellent singer. His handling of the vocals for ‘Rubber Bullets’ was just right. I'd love to hear him do a version of 'Donna'
Most of the band turned out to watch the horse racing before the concert. I can’t recall seeing Paul Burgess until right before the concert. I did have a brief meeting with Graham after the first race, just as he was ‘off to finish his dinner’.
If you look carefully, you can just see Paul.
There were hundreds of fans there for the concert. Of course there were a few drunken loud-mouths too. When Graham announced they were going to do another song from the Deceptive Bends LP, a voice was heard 'Come On Eileen' (a Dexy's Midnight Runners song). The same idiot also shouted abusive names at the band a few times too. One more brain cell in his head and he still wouldn't have a pair...
We were right on the front row of the audience. One of the Security men was heard to comment "I did Madonna two weeks ago" and gave a huge grin. But we knew what he really meant...

My eldest daughter, Sarah, came along for her first ever concert. She was so thrilled to meet Graham in person for herself, she asked him if he would take the race-day programme (see above) and get the rest of the band to sign it for our friends Ron & Ilse, who had ventured over from Holland for the concert.

The wave 'bye-bye' The encore, Rubber Bullets was absolutely amazing. The ‘duet’ between keyboards and guitar (Spike & Rick) when they cut loose, was incredible.
And Graham also signed this.
