| I counted 28 cars for Autospeeds first WCQR of the year, with visitors coming in the form of 172 Simon Byrne, 117 Mark Longley and 428 Richard Regan, even though the three are all Autospeed licensed. Very little to note on the car front amongst the usual Bluebirds, save for a 323 Estate for 619 Luke Thomas, a used Capri from 341 Andy Jones, a fresh one for 428 Grumpy which left car of the meeting to 234 Paul Galliford with his Hairy Old Mk3 Cortina.
Heat 1 Most if not all of the 28 cars were out for heat 1 and it started with a big lunge down the back straight which resulted in half the field being spun to the infield or caught in a pileup on the back straight, a small pileup also forming on the exit of the pit bend which claimed a few drivers. 9 Harris picked up 234 Galliford and dumped him into 117 Chinny allowing 118 Aaron Brown in for a solid hit. 190 Steve Bailey picked up 172 Bernie and followed him in hard where 428 Grumpy was on hand to jack the Bluebird nicely. 905 Jason Ross then put 4 Tony Hulland into the side of Bernie's dead motor, Grumpy doing the same on 147 Phil Purdy, allowing 190 Pikey in for a revenge hit on the boot of his Capri. 917 Malcolm Horn took in 249 Darren Brock on the honiton bend, Brock then tagged by 9 Harris and 916 Ross Thomas before the race quietened down some what which saw 247 Richard Sparkes take the win ahead of 190 Pikey and 83 Andy Beaven. Result: 247, 190, 83, 9, 249, 905 Heat 2 341 Jones started a good one man show in the 2nd heat which began with a follow in on 619 Luke Thomas, team-mate 916 Ross getting revenge by hitting Jones over the back wheel seconds later. Meanwhile, young gun 908 Brown was left stranded on the back straight, 341 Jones obliging with a cracking hit, 619 Thomas also got in another hit on Jones, although Jones did get another hard hit on 916 Thomas on the exit of the pit bend when he got going. 9 Harris dished out a big hit to the boot of heat 1 winner 247 Sparkes, Sparkes wheel come off aswell as he hit the fence prior to being jacked. After the restart to recover the lost wheel, it went quiet on the action front as 83 Beaven won from 190 Pikey and 406 Chris Bridger, however Pikey dished out a meaty hit to 905 Ross after the chequered. Result: 83, 190, 406, 9 , 147 Final 249 Brock took 308 Badger for a big ride around the pit bend plating with 222 Justin Herbert getting a head on from 190 Pikey after he spun. 308 Badger was spun by 428 Grumpy (who had changed his engine in the pits after the first race) and received a good t-bone over the back wheel from 741 Alex Waterman, although he managed to continue but was then picked up by 22 Mark Moore and 249 Brock, Badger getting some air time with Moore rolling over. 741 Waterman took a big swipe at Grumpy going into the pit bend which left both cars in the wall, 917 Horn steaming Waterman who got done in turn by 341 Jones who then got jacked by 905 Ross who got another blitz off of the lively Pikey which ended a good bit of action as 83 Beaven took the win again ahead of 9 Harris this time with Pikey in 3rd. Result: 83, 9 , 190 , 249, 428, 147 DD Around 7 for the demo with 428 Grumpy getting it going with a shot to 916 Thomas, 917 Horn then hitting the 323 Estate over the back wheel hard before Thomas got a good hit back on Horn before 9 Harris accidentally doored Thomas on the end of the home straight. There was abit of chasing about going on by the reamining 4 drivers before Grumpy and Pikey met in a solid head on although both did back off. Grumpy then came under fire from Harris, Horn and Pikey again although the Capri kept going to the crowds approval. Harris then dished out two more hits to the back wheels of Grumpy, before Pikey landed the tellng blow by ripping the back wheel off. This just left Pikey and Harris, Pikey waving Harris in on the home straight for a good hit although it was Pikey who won in the end after delivering a big t-bone to Harris on the Honiton bend. Result: 190 from 9 A good entertaining WCQR, which havent had good turnouts in recent years, however this will hopefully be a trend which continues for the other 3 WCQR meets due to be held throughout this year. Also on a promising note is Boneshayker, over 90 cars booked already with some big names from far and wide, if last year was anything to go by, we will be in for another stroming meeting.
