H.I.M. started out back in 1991 by your average teenagers having the yearning to experience the most out of life through music. At that time the band was made up of Ville Valo, Mige Amour, Juippi, and Juha Tarvponen and called themselves Kafferi, meaning black person. This name soon changed due the discontent that arose amongst the band's friends.
In 1993 their guitarist, Linde joined the band. After a few demos and a lot of hard work the band began down the road of success. This meant that the band needed a real drummer, since Ville had been filling in for the role of both vocals and drummer. They soon found Pattka and after being impressed with his style of drumming, they recruited him into the band.
After Pattka's membership in the band, they recorded more demo tracks. For these demo tracks they were looking for some new effects. So they needed a keyboard player. This lead to Antto's joining of the band. He only stayed a member of the band for a short time, though it was longer then originally planned.
After his leave, Pattka decided to leave as well for personal reasons. This left H.I.M. in need of new people to fill in the empty gaps. After some searching, the band found Gas Lipstick to play the drums and Zoltan to play the keyboards.
In 2000 the band released "Razorblade Romance" and soon after Zoltan left the band. Again the band was on the search for a new keyboard player. This time their search lead them to Burton, which so far has been very successful.
In 2001 the band released "Deep Shadows and Brilliant Highlights." This album was followed up two years later by "Love Metal." This fourth album brought the band much popularity across the globe and everyone wanted a piece of the band. Gigs were selling out and the band members found themselves being mobbed by fans. They had hit it big. But can they keep the momentum going?
