HISTORY MADE SATURDAY NIGHT
WASHINGTON D.C. -- For the
first time in the history of mankind, Andy Stroud drafted a player who spent
the previous season on the roster of the Courthouse Junkies, owner Mark Scott
announced Sunday. It was a move that instantly brought excitement at Draft
Central of the Courthouse Junkies during the annual draft of the Friends
Baseball League Saturday night.
Fred McGriff, who came
aboard the Courthouse Junkies in 2001, was drafted by Andy's Slug Sauce
Saturday night.
"I'm happy for Fred,
who meant a lot to our team last year," Scott said. "I'm even more
happy for myself because a team of the greatness of Slug Sauce would draft one
of my hold-outs. It shows we're making progress."
Scott was also excited that
Daniel Shoptaw made it through the draft without trading either good players or
top draft positions to Andy, something that has become the trend in recent
years. But Scott, anchored by team manager Jessie Ventura, didn't hold out hope
that trend would last throughout the season.
"Andy knows the Jedi
Mind Trick, and he knows how to use it on Dan," Scott added.
"Hopefully Matt will not fall victim to the same Jedi Mind Trick during
trade talks over A-Rod."
Asked to comment about
Daniel's first-round pick of pitcher Kazuhisamamakournakova Ishii, Ventura
said: "Isn't he that little bald guy in the cartoons? Ishii or Iggy or
something like that?"
