He is a military genius. He was Mathieu best student, but was expelled because he was somewhat corrupt. He became a trader and gained lots of money very fast, due to his skills. He at first doesn't want to join you, but changes his mind later on. He seems resposible for Leon Silverburg working for the Highland Army.
