Well well well... Id Software uses it's popular Quake 3 engine and makes *gasp* a Star Trek game !!

Story- For those of you unfamiliar with the Star Trek Voyager series (it's over by the way, but it's in syndication), the crew of the USS Voyager was carried away from the Alpha Quadrant (Earth is somewhere in there) by the Caretaker (think... some kind of God) and slapped into the Delta Quadrant, uncharted space. So now they're in a place they don't know of, and they're 70 years away from Earth.

The security officer Tuvok puts together a crack team of officers to form the Hazard Team (best of the best) to protect Voyager from hostile foes. 

As if being trapped in space wasn't bad enough, they encounter a probe that traps them in a dampening field. Now, they have no weapons, no defence, and no way of leaving. They are surrounded by dead ships, and it seems there are hostile forces at work. It's up to the Hazard Team to save Voyager from the new threats they'll likely encounter.

Gameplay- As with all first-person-shooter, you see through the eyes of the main character. You'll play as Ensign Munro, who is either male or female, depending on the choice you make at the beginning. 

Your missions take place on either the Voyager, or on stranded ships. You'll have to rely on your weapons, and your skills to save the Voyager (and your butt). The enemies you kill supply you with ammo, and you can replenish your health with special healing machines. 

Each weapon has two firing modes, the second one being more powerful than the first, but it drains more power from your weapons. Unfortunetly, the weapons share the two types of weapons (Federation and alien). At some times you'll have to conserve your ammo (use it wisely), but if you do run out, you can use your hand phaser, which recharges. You'll get a lot of weapons, and certain weapons work best against certain enemies (the Borg... They can adapt to your weapons... Well, all except for 1 weapon).

You can jump, run, walk, and duck, each skill you'll need to complete your mission. 

The enemies can seem to be pretty easy, but as you proceed... You're going to be outnumbered. You're teammates also play a part in the difficulty, as they get in your way most of the time. You will NEVER be alone in a mission, which can be good and bad. 

There are some puzzles, but they're mainly "I can't find a way through this door, find another way to get where we want to go !!"

Graphics and Sound- The graphics are pretty... uh... PSX like. When you look out a window in Voyager, it looks like you're trapped in a giant box. The characters do have nice facial expressions, well, at least the non-Vulcan characters.

The music is pretty far off in the background. You won't really notice it since you're too busy trying to stay alive. And the characters (the Voyagers main crew) are all voiced by the original actors that played them. So if you're a fan of the show, it'll seem just like an episode.

Multiplayer Mode- Well, what do you expect ? It's a FPS, so the multiplayer mode is just kill each other. There are a lot of characters to choose from, some weren't even in the main story.

Replay Value- Well when I finished it, I didn't really see a point to playing it again. The only thing I could have done was go through the game again using the female character. It is a fun game to play.

Rent or Buy- I'd say rent. You can easily finish it in a week, and since there isn't really a point to playing it again...

My final score - 7/10

I normally shun FPS on consoles, due to the lack of the mouse, but to my surprise, STV was a pretty good game. It had an alright story, and it could have even fit in with the Voyager series if they wanted it to (it was even set up like the show). If you normally don't play FPS on consoles, try this one, you won't be disappointed.
