JAPANESE RESTAURANTS
Historically, the Japanese have had a huge impact on the San Gabriel Valley.  They were among the first group of Asian-Americans to live here before the Chinese influx starting in the 1980's.  As with the story of America, groups come and go only to be replaced by other groups.  While there are certainly many Japanese-Americans who live here, their influence and numbers have been greatly dimished.

In the San Gabriel Valley, many of the so-called Japanese restaurants are actually owned and operated by Korean or Chinese folks.  Koreans actually eat many of the same foods, such as the ubiquitos rolls and sushi.  Chinese don't eat anything raw.  Most of them probably opened Japanese restaurants because there's just too much competition in the field of Chinese restaurants.  Personally, I have yet to encounter a good Japanese restaurant staffed by Chinese cooks.  However, there are still a number of good Japanese restaurants around.  My significant other doesn't really like raw fish, so I don't get to eat Japanese food that often.  I'm sure there are other sources that provide better information for Japanese restaurants, but this is what you get from a free site.
