| Those who know may say that I'm generally too tolerant of bad service from restaurants. It might be true. Perhaps it's because I've gone to so many Chinese restaurants that I no longer recognize bad service. No, I think it's because I worked in the restaurant business for years and recognize how difficult of a business it is. Nevertheless, there are certain times that the service is so egregious that even I won't stand for it. This page will spotlight such restaurants in the hope that customers will avoid them and they will improve their customer service. | |||||||||
| Papa John's Pizza 1312 S. Baldwin Ave., Arcadia 626-445-6262 Type: Pizza place We've ordered from them a few times, and they have never failed to mess up the order. Usually, they messed up the toppings. But the last time, they totally messed up my order. I was having some guests come from out of town, so I had placed in a phone order to have it ready for pickup at 5:30 PM. When I arrived promptly at 5:30 PM, the worker told me that they had absolutely no record of my order nor my phone number. I asked them to double check, and they simply said, "Sorry." Running out of time, I drove to the Papa John's in San Gabriel. After I finished placing the order (about 30 minutes later), I got a message from my wife that the Papa John's delivery person was at my house with my order. How could they not have my order on record and yet deliver it 30 minutes later?! I looked at the receipt. Sure enough, they had my order and phone number correct. It seemed to me that they had received my order correctly but didn't cook it until after I left their restaurant. It would take about 20 minutes to prepare the pizza and 10 minutes to deliver it, which is probably why it was 30 minutes late, even though I had actually requested a pickup. I was absolutely furious. Because of their error, I drove around town trying to fix their problems. My family and guests were starving. We requested the manager from the Baldwin Ave. branch to compensate us for the time, gas, and effort wasted. His only reply was that we can request a new order to be done from the website! There wasn't even an apology. Was he serious? Was some village missing its idiot?! I read him the riot act and probably scared the living daylights out of the delivery person even though I made it clear to him that I was angry at his management and not him. Since then, I found out from one of my co-workers that he has had nothing but problems with the staff there. They frequently mess up his order, and customer service is terrible. With customer service like that, this restaurant does not deserve to be in business. I do not plan to order from here ever again. I'm hoping that by placing this warning here, other folks won't have to experience the pain of ordering from here. |
