Chunks of pack ice (called 'floes') float around the oceans of Antarctica out to hundreds of kilometres. They are different from the Fast Ice in that they are not attached to the continent, but float freely in the ocean. The floes are popular spots for seals and penguins to haul out onto for a sleep.
