About 18 kilometres west along the coastline from Mawson Station lie the Rookery Islands, an Adelie Penguin breeding ground. As you can see, the sea ice in this region has melted completely, to reveal the blue liquid ocean. This is the area that the Hagglunds broke through thin sea ice just 3 weeks earlier.
