ANTARCTICA - JOURNEY TO THE ICE

Picnic on the Sea Ice, East Antarctica

What a nice spot for a picnic...

Colebeck hut is 80 kilometres west of Mawson Station, along the Antarctic coastline. A group of six of us went down there in two Hagglunds all-terrain vehicles for 3 days to carry out one of the twice annual census photographs of the Emperor Penguin rookery at the Taylor Glacier. The journey down there took us about 6 hours in wonderful conditions, and we stopped here on the sea ice for a picnic lunch.
