ANTARCTICA - JOURNEY TO THE ICE

Wild Weather, Aurora Australis, Southern Ocean

One wave at a time...

The Southern Ocean holds the unenviable reputation as being the roughest in the world. Fierce low pressure system storms circle the Antarctic continent, whipping up gale force winds and massive seas and swells. Whilst we certainly didn't get the ocean at its very worst, we did get a taste of what it is capable of, with wind gusts up to 52knots (100km/hr), and seas and swell up to a total height of 12 metres.
