What follows
is a brief listing of all the direct ancestors of the Rayno family of the Flaghole district of New Hampshire.FAMILY NAME: The original family name in France was ‘Renard-Deslauriers. The ‘Deslauriers’ was a second name given to differentiate them from other Renard families in France. As far as I know, they were called this because they were the Renard family living next to the Deslauriers.
HOME IN FRANCE: Their home was the parish of ST.Michel La Pallud in the city of angers, located in Anjou Province, west of Paris and south of Brittany. This is part of the famous Loire River Valley wine district.
FIRST RAYNO/RENARD IN CANADA: His name was Claude Renard (1637-1681?). His parents were Nicholas Renard and Louise Thibault. His exact arrival date in Canada is unknown, all we know is that it was between 1670 and 1677.

In this period,
the French were defeated in the French and Indian Wars by the English and were
forced to surrender New France (what the French called their Canadian colony) It
is possible that some of the Rayno men fought in some of these wars as members
of their local militia. From here until 1867 they were British citizens.
