| and she pushed him gently away. Cricket ignored her, moving right back, letting out his soft mew, and laying a paw on her knee. Giving up, she allowed herself the comfort of petting the cat, which, as she'd known it would, calmed her. As her father pulled into the drive, she shoved the cat asied again and ran to throw her arms around him as soon as he stepped out of the car. "In my room daddy!" She cried. "There's no head! Daddy!" Although he tried to ask her numerous questions, all she would answer was "my room! Now dad!" Shaking his head, he held her hand and headed into the house, promptly tripping over her backpack. "Beth!" He snapped. "Your backpack doesn't belong here!" "I know, I know, but my room!!!" Beth sobbed. Kicking her backpack into the living room, her father continued to her room. He pushed open her slightly ajar door and looked in. "Of for christ's sake!" He snapped. "It's only a mouse!" |
