Cricket
This is part of a "two part" assignment from english comp 2.  We had to do a character sketch, and then put our character in a story.  This is the character sketch.
As lives go, Cricket had a simple life.  He rose early in the morning for his bowl of milk, then promptly returned to sleep, snuggling his favorite human.  There was much he had never seen or done, but that was all right; he didn't know any differently.  The four things hid day consisted of were napping, grooming, eating and playing.  His favortie spot for napping was in the windowsill, sprawled like a carelessly thrown blanket, soaking in the golden fingers of the sun.  Life was good.  He had a warm bed, plenty to eat, and many things to interest him, although the wadded up sheet of paper on the floor was always much more interesting than the store bought toys his girl was always bringing home for him.
He couldn't really complain about anything, though he would have preferred that the mice visited more.  They provided a fun tasty snack and plenty of exercise.  While he was usually a quite peaceful cat, when the little rodents showed up he was a killing machine, ready to annihilate his prey.
At times, such as now, he was able to curl up in his girls lap, and receive plenty of attention while drifting off into the ever important nap.  He would have to groom himself after the petting, of course, as he couldn't possibly konw where his girls hands had been.  While grooming was extremely important, at the moment he could think of nothing more than the fact that the fingers stroking his head felt great.  With a contented sigh, Cricket temporarily gave up thoughts of grooming as he let his eyes fall shut.  He dozed off, dreaming of the mice  he would soon catch and eat at some point that day.
