| Strickland back in Portland? What everyone expected, and what the Wizards fans hoped for, happened. Michael Jordan waived PG Rod Strickland. NBATalk.com says Rod Strickland will ink for Portland's $ 2.25M exeption. Other posibilities are New York, Miami, Indiana and Dallas. Strickland will not end up in Miami because the Heat don't have the cap room to claim him. Next year, the Heat only have their mid-level exeption, probably about # 4.5 million. But Miami would rather save that for players like Patrick Ewing, Mitch Richmond, Brad Miller or Shandon Anderson, who could all be available for that price. Rod will not sign with New York either, because the Knicks just got starting PG Mark Jackson in a trade with Toronto. Strickland says he wants to play for a playoff team. Portland would be just the right choice, wouldn't it? Rod already played four seasons for Portland, 1992-93 through 1995-96. Rod was signed with the Portland Trail Blazers as a free-agent on July 3, 1992. In 94-95 Strickland averaged a career high with 18.9 points per game and the next season, in 1995-96 he averaged 18.7. On July 15, 1996 he was traded to the Washington Bullets with F Harvey Grant for F Rasheed Wallace and G Mitchell Butler. After he made the All-NBA second team, Rod was waived with the Wizards on March 2, 2001. Rod Strickland will be Stoudamire's backup and on this moment, Damon Stoudamire is the starting point-guard for the Blazers. Damon said - yes, DAMON Stoudamire, ladies and gentlemen - he wouldn't mind sharing his playing time with Rod Strickland. Al right, Damon get's some more minutes on the bench, but what about Stoudamire's backup Greg Anthony? How much playing-time is he going to get, if Rod is going to play here? Look, Greg just signed a four-year contract with the Blazers. If he isn't going to play in Portland for four years, but sitting on the bench, maybe would happen to Greg what happened to Rod, getting waived, and than there is no rich Paul Allen to pick Greg up. (Of course not, Paul fired him) All right Greg, it's time to let lil' Damon ,sorry Stoudamire.com, know who should be the starting point-guard. When you do that only Rod is in your way to become an All-Star. Rod shouldn't be a problem, he can't play defence like you, he can't shoot the 3-ball like you... The only thing he can do better than you, is getting payed, sorry Rod. |
