New York Knicks
HEADLINES ARCHIVE
This was Greg's most succesfull season ever. This season was a little less spectaculair for the raising guard's individual stats, but it was for the team. Greg began the season battling Doc Rivers for the starting point guard job on the New York Knicks and ended it as a backup to the newly acquired veteran Derek Harper. Greg started 36 of 80 games in wich he played. After Rivers suffered a season-ending knee injury on December 16, Anthony moved into the starting spot and remained there for 36 consecutive games. Even when the Knicks acquired Harper on January 6, Greg continued starting, until February 27, when the guards switched roles for the rest of the season. Anthony came off the bench for the final 27 games of the regulair season and throughout the play-offs. For the year, Greg averaged 7.9 points, 4.6 assists and 1.43 steals, shooting less spectaculair, only .394 from the floor but .300 from three-point range. On February 10, he scored a season-high 19 points, and on February 25 he handed out a season-high 11 assists against the Nuggets in Denver. Both highs were set when Greg played on the starting spot. He oftenly (23 times) led the Knicks in assists, and on March 15, he reached a milestone, while noticing his 1,000th career assist, against the Boston Celtics. While Greg was a big part of the best team in the East, the Knicks reached the NBA Finals, eventually losing to the Houston Rockets in seven close games.
