The Holy Mass

Why the Mass?

When I was a child I always thought of what it would be like to live in the time of Jesus. I was always filled with throughts like:
If I were the inkeeper at Bethlehem I would have given Mary and Joseph the best room.
If I were at Capernaum when Jesus said "He who feeds on my flesh and drinks my blood has life eternal,"John 6:54 I would have believed and remained with him.
I would have stayed awake in Gethsemani while Jesus prayed.
If I were with Peter outside in the courtyard when Jesus was on trial, I would not have denied him.
If I were at the way of the cross in Jerusalem, I would have helped Jesus carry his cross like Simon of Cyrene.
I would not have doubted like Thomas when Jesus rose from the dead.
Now that I am older, I'm not so sure. But I can be with Him at the foot of the cross every day. At Mass it is as if time has beem suspended and I am present with him to share in His Sacrifice.

In Jesus discourse on the Bread of Life,John 6:25-59 he told us, "I myself am the living bread come down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread he shall live forever; the bread I will geve is my flesh, for the life of the world." and then,"Let me solemnly assure you, if you do not eat the flesh of the son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you. He who feeds on my flesh and drinks my blood has life eternal, and I will raise him up on the last day. For my flesh is real food and my blood real drink." etc.

The people did not understand how this could be but at the Passover Meal on the night before his crucifixion we learned how we would share in this miracle. Even then they may not have completely understood because Jesus had not yet died and rose from the dead. After he rose we see that the deciples recognized him in the breaking of the bread at Emmaus. Luke 24:13-35 And again he ate with them on the shore of the Sea of Tiberias. John 21:9-14

See Acts 3:42
1 Corr 10:14-22
etc.
What greater worship can there be than to re-present to God the Father the sacrifice of his Son as he told us "Do this in rememberance of me". We do this with all the angels and saints in heaven who continuously offer worship in the presence of the Lamb of God. Rev:4,5
