Act of Contrition

Oh My God, I am heartily sorry for having offended Thee,
and I detest all my sins because I dread the loss of Heaven
and the pains of Hell;
but most of all because they offend Thee my God,
who art all good and deserving of all my love.

I firmly resolve with the help of thy grace,
to confess my sins, to do penance and to amend my life.

Act of Contrition

"O My God," You to whom I owe my very being.
"I am heartily sorry for having offended Thee," Through my fault, through my most grevious fault.
"and I detest all my sins because I dread the loss of Heaven and the pains of Hell;" It is my sins that prevent me from knowing you O Lord, I do not want these sins in my life for they will eventually corrupt me and make me desire the things of this world before you in Heaven.
"but most of all because they offend Thee my God, who art all good and deserving of all my love." Why would I desire to offend my maker and sustainer. How arrogant must I be. I wish only to love and be eternally gratefull to you for your adoption of me as your child.
"I firmly resolve with the help of thy grace," I know that without your grace, I can do nothing. I pray for your grace to perservere in my struggle; to submit to your will for I know that on earth as in heaven that thy will be done and I only want to be a part of your great will.
"to confess my sins, to do penance" I pray for the grace to examine my concience, acknowledge my faults and confess my sins with the intention of converting my life to your honor and glory.
"and to amend my life." May my pennance, in some small way, help me to realize hurt that I cause others in my sin and give me a firm resolve to love you and them with all my heart, all my soul, and all my mind.
AMEN
