| ABOUT THE ARTIST--Carol Lee Rayle Drawing and painting has been my avocation since kindergarten. Formal instruction began in high school and at the University of California at Berkeley with a degree in Art. (oil painting being the medium of choice, watercolors a mystery) The next 40 years I was a teacher in the elementary schools and my art instruction was mostly limited to children in addition to "readin', 'ritin' and 'rithmetic". In addition to raising my own family, summers enabled my efforts to meet with a modest success, along with folk art decorations on furniture for friends, private commissions and local stores. I always admired watercolors for their luminosity and movement in expressing an impression of a subject. At my retirement, I had the time to experience this new medium. My garden and cats are my favorite subjects. Landscapes are being explored, especially since our move with Yosemite National Park literally in our backyard! The historic Sierra Nevada gold town of Mariposa (butterfly in Spanish) is filled with inspiration. I continue to take workshops and inspiration from several "Masters". (Dorothy Harmes, Diane Maxey, Tony Couch, Joseph Stoddard, Brigit O'Connor, Brenda Swenson, Michelle Marco, and Mary Jane Campbell-Mann) Now I have the time to pursue my love of painting and since Grandma Moses didn't begin until she was about 75 years old, there is much time and pleasure ahead!! Your interest is greatly appreciated and I hope you visit often. CLR ![]() |
