Joel 2:12 "Now therefore saith the Lord: Be converted to me with
all your heart, in fasting, in weeping, and in mourning."
Is very effective against the devil
Mark 9:27-28 "And when he was come into the house, his disciples
secretly asked him: Why could we not cast him out." And he said
to them: This kind can go out by nothing, but by prayer and
fasting."
Is to be practiced by Christians
Matthew 9:14-15 "Then came to him the disciples of John saying:
Why do we and the Pharisees fast often, but thy disciples do not
fast? And Jesus said to them: Can the children of the bridegroom
mourn, as long as the bridegroom is with them? But the days will
come, when the bridegroom shall be taken away from them, and
then they shall fast."
The early Christians fasted.
Acts 13:1-3 "Now there were in the church which was at Antioch,
prophets and doctors, among whom was Barnabas, Simon who was
called Niger, and Lucius of Cyrene, and Manahen, who was the
foster brother of Herod the tetrarch, and Saul. And as they were
ministering to the Lord, and fasting, the Holy Ghost said to
them: Seperate me Saul and Barnabas, for the work whereunto I
have taken them. Then they, fasting and praying, and imposing
their hands upon them, sent them away."
