Chapter 10
A Clue from the Digipast

�I�d sell my soul to rest my soles!� Mimi wailed as she and Palmon walked though the richly green forest. �Well we�ve been walking for six hours on end, Mimi you deserve a rest� Palmon said. Mimi stopped on sat herself down on old tree stump which had moss creeping up the side of it. �Oh your right, but I do enjoy walking though this forest,� Mimi said, as she looked up though the canap�. She closed her eyes and let the gentle sunrays wash over her face. �I guess we can camp here,� Palmon said as she looked around.

�Mmmm, Palmon come up here and I�ll show how to tan plus the dew on the forest floor is the best aroma therapy I�ve ever had,� Mimi called out to her as she leaned back. Palmon hopped up the little green hill and sat down on another tree stump near Mimi�s. She let long roots absorb the fresh rainwater that had been collected in the holes that time had carved in the roting wood. �Oh your right Mimi, this is a great spot to rest and the water is topnotch� Palmon said and continued to sit back and let her roots drink the sparkling liquid. Mimi didn�t think Palmon should be drinking the water, her parents always said never to drink rainwater. Then she remembered why, because of the pollution in the air, but the Digital World wasn�t polluted, it was untouched by humankind�s technology and it really showed. Mimi dipped her hand in to a pocket of water that had collected on her stump and slowly sipped it down. It was even more delicious then the diet soda she loved so much. �Palmon this is wonderful, you�re so lucky to be able to drink this every day,� Mimi said as she dipped her hand back in for a second sip. The forest was quite, only the gentle breeze that rustled the leaves made a sound that could be heard. Mimi had had three handfuls of water when she stopped. If the Digimon are wise enough not to build over this forest then I�ll leave some water for them, its only fair.

Mimi and Palmon sat in silence and absorbed the sunrays, wishing that this relaxation would never have to end. �I think this is the same feeling I get when I�m singing� Mimi said as the rays massaged her face. Palmon sat up. �What�s singing?� she asked. �Hmmm, singing is like talking but with beauty and with rhythm� Mimi explained. Palmon was intrigued, �Will you sing for me, Mimi?� Mimi sat up. �What would I sing?� �I don�t know, I guess something that makes you feel like you do in the forest like you said earlier� Palmon said. Mimi smiled, �Oh right, I think I�ll sing that song that my mom taught me.� �What song would that be, Mimi?� Palmon asked. Mimi turned towards Palmon. �This is a song my dad sang to my mom before he proposed to her, its short but it says �I love you� in so many different ways�� Palmon stood up and clapped her hands together. �Oh please sing it to me, Mimi please� Palmon said very exited. �Okay just clam down Palmon� Mimi said. She stood up and tested her voice. �Okay, here goes� Mimi said a little nervous, shed never sung in front of a Digimon audience before.   Palmon stood quietly. Mimi let out a long sigh and began.

�If I had words to make a day for you, I�d sing you a morning, golden
and new. I would make this day last for all time, sing you a night deep in moon shine.�

Palmon couldn�t keep back her excitement, Mimi�s voice was just beautiful.
Palmon wanted to sing so she quickly joined Mimi in chorus.

Mimi was very glad Palmon joined her, now the end of the song will be even more powerful.

�IF I HAD WORDS TO MAKE A DAY FOR YOU, I�D SING YOU A MORNING GOLDEN AND NEW!   I WOULD MAKE THIS DAY LAST FOR ALL TIME, SING YOU A NIGHT DEEP IN MOON SHINE!�

The two caught their breath and congratulated each other on a job well done. �Mimi that was beautiful, perfectly sung!� Palmon said. Mimi smiled at Palmon. �You did a wonderful job, are you sure you�ve never sung anything before?� �Yes you did very good ladies!� Mimi and Palmon turned around and saw a Digimon or two up in the tree branches. �What is that thing that looks like a.. lemon custard?!� Mimi asked. Palmon frowned. �That�s Sukamon, and that�s his little buddy Chumon, there�re almost never apart because they share one brain.� Mimi turned her head and saw a small purple mouse-like creature on Sukamon�s head. She didn�t like the looks of these ugly Digimon and began backing up. �We thought your singing was excellent ladies, will you go out with us?� Sukamon asked. Mimi and Palmon felt sick, first it was that Numemon and now these ones. What was with all these ugly, lovesick Digimon? �NO WAY!� Mimi yelled and she and Palmon started running in the opposite direction. Sukamon looked at Chumon.   �They said no way.� Chumon looked at Sukamon. �Umm yeah, they sure did.� They sat there for a minute. �THAT MEANS THEY SAID NO!� They both finally said. �Let�s show um we�re strong and then they�ll change their minds!� Sukamon said and started the pursuit.

�RUN, RUN!� Mimi cried. �I�m going as fast as I can!� Palmon said in between breaths. �Heh heh, watch this girls!� Sukamon said. He attacked the pair but missed. �If you�re trying to impress us, you�re totally going about it the wrong way!� Mimi cried as she looked at Sukamon and Chumon as she ran. Mimi was to busy watching her attackers that she didn't see the tree root that peeked out of the forest floor. �Owww!� Mimi screamed as she tripped over it, spraining her ankle in the process. Palmon stopped running. �MIMI!� This didn�t stop Sukamon and Chumon. �Keep watching girls!� They attacked again, however, this time Mimi couldn�t run away! �STOP!� Mimi cried and shoved her bag, which had her Digivice strapped to it, in front of her face. Then the Digivice reacted, shooting a bright beam of light at Sukamon and Chumon, knocking them right out of the tree they were in. They landed on the ground in front of Mimi and Palmon and the light disappeared. Neither Mimi nor Palmon had any idea what had just happened but Mimi was furious. She slowly rose to her feet and looked at the two Digimon at her feet, who were recovering from they�re fall. �WELL HOW DID YOU LIKE THAT!� Mimi scolded. Sukamon looked at Chumon. �Did we like that?� Chumon looked at Sukamon. �I don�t know did we like that?� Sukamon looked at Chumon. �I don�t know did we like that?� Mimi�s rage was building. �OH SHUT UP!� she screamed. Sukamon looked at Mimi. �No need to get touchy, I�m a whole new person!� he said. �Yeah� said Chumon. �We�re a whole new person!� Mimi looked at her Digivice, which jogged her memory. �Say, you haven�t seen any other kids around here have you?� �Heh heh, we sure have!� Chumon said. Mimi was overjoyed. �WHERE, WHERE?� she asked. Sukamon started to giggle. �Why I might be able to tell you, if you two give us a little kiss!� �Ewwww!� Mimi said. Yuck! I don�t want to make a promise I can�t keep but I have to find the others!   �Okay but only after you show us where the other kids are.� Palmon knew that Mimi had no intention of kissing either one of those Digimon so she played along. Chumon eyed Palmon. �Does that go for you to?� Palmon nodded. �Yup.� �Great, follow us!� Sukamon said.

The two dimwits lead Mimi and Palmon to the very edge of the island and there was another island very close to the one they were on. �They are on that island somewhere� now pucker up!� Sukamon said. �Aggh, Mimi hang-on!� Palmon said. Mimi wrapped her arms around Palmon. �POSIN IVY!� Palmon said as she wrapped her vines around a tree on the adjacent island. �Here we go!� Palmon said and the two flew from one island to the other. �Whew, that was close Palmon� Mimi said wiping her brow. �Oh come back girls, please!� Chumon said from the other island. �Come on lets go� Mimi said as she headed deeper in the islands forest. �Okay Mimi.� Palmon said and quickly followed.

�Prodigious!� Izzy cried. Tentomon and himself had found some ancient building of some sort, but best of all inside the ruins was a large wall, which had the same writing on it as the dimension they had fallen in to at the factory. �Look Tentomon, that wall has the same writing as the walls in that other dimension we feel in to a while back!� Izzy exclaimed. �Oh so it does, what are you going- -IZZY LOOKOUT!� Tentomon cried. Izzy jumped back and saw a large black gear sticking out of the floor, much larger then the ones they were used to. �WHOA, thanks buddy� Izzy said to Tentomon and then began to examine the gear. It was just spinning, half submerged in the floor, doing nothing really. This puzzled Izzy a great deal, much to his liking. �It� it doesn�t seem to have a purpose� but yet it�s there, fascinating!� Izzy said as he circled the black gear. �So what does it mean Izzy!� Tentomon asked. �That�s a very good question, and one good question deserves another!� Izzy said. He staked himself out at the front of the gigantic wall and turned on his laptop. Tentomon flew over to where Izzy was sitting. �What are you doing now Izzy?� �Just a second� Izzy said. He punched something in on the keyboard. �Ah, there I have the first part of the wall is downloading, I�ll be a few minutes before it�s fully decoded.� Izzy and Tentomon watched as the data was displayed in English on the screen.

�Wow, its some kind of ancient prophecy Tentomon!� Izzy said. Tentomon stared blindly at the screen. �Forgive me Izzy but I can�t read� he admitted. �No problem Tento, it says: When the innocent beast attacks, the children are the ones to fight back. A light of protection they will see, then blind the beast will be.� �Tento, I�ve never been called that before, I like it. I�m sorry but I can�t make heads or tails of that prophecy� Tentomon said. �Heh, neither can I, but I�m sure the second half will shed some light on the first half� Izzy said. Izzy looked at the half of the wall that still had to be decoded. �Only this half may take a little while longer,� he said. Tentomon looked over Izzy�s shoulder and watched him work. �HEY IZZY!� Izzy and Tentomon both jumped in the air, Tentomon hadn�t said anything. The pair fell to the floor and Izzy tried to push Tentomon off his back but was unsuccessful. �WHO�S THERE- -SHOW YOURSELF!� he yelled out. The stranger leaned down so their face was directly in front of Izzy�s. �It�s me silly!� The stranger was none other then Mimi! Izzy staggered to his feet.

�Oh hi Mimi� is Palmon with you?� he asked. �Of course!� Palmon said as she looked at the gear. Izzy arched his back and then repositioned himself in front of his laptop and continued with his work. Mimi was dumbfounded. �Um what are you doing, lets go!� she demanded. �Please just wait Mimi, before you got here I began some interesting work and I intend to finish it, so please just wait a few minutes� Izzy said not taking his eyes from the screen. Mimi hated to wait, but it was only fair so she sat down and put her head in her hands and so began the longest wait of her life.

�Liar� Mimi screamed on the verge of having a temper-tantrum. �One� more� minute!� Izzy shouted, still working on the second half of the wall. That was the last straw. Mimi shot up and burst into tears. �OHHH I�M SICK OF THIS WORLD, YOU�RE A LIAR, A GAINT LEMON CUSTARD TRIED TO KISS ME, AND I JUST WANNA GO HOME!� With that Mimi ran off in the long corridor. �Wait, Mimi� Tentomon said as he flew after her. �Izzy jumped up in panic. �Wait both of you, don�t go in there!� But it was to late, they were gone. Palmon jumped up and ran to the beginning of the long stretch of corridor. �Mimi�� No answer. She turned to a worried Izzy. �How will we get them back?� Izzy
looked down at Palmon. �We� we won�t.�

�This is the wrong way!� Mimi yelled. Tentomon had stopped paying attention to her whining a long time ago and now just tried to retrace there�re steps to him self. �Was it this way� no. This way perhaps� that�s not it either. Oh dear.� Mimi couldn�t understand it, how could it be taking so long to find Izzy and Palmon. She now realized it was a mistake to run off, but all she planned to do was find a corner, sulk, and then find Izzy again. That�s certainly couldn�t be to much to ask for could it? It was. They were lost, way lost and only the creeping shadows were the only things to guide them around the ruins. Mimi looked at the shadows as they bounced up and down the walls as the wall torches flicked. �WHAAAA!�

�What do you mean we won�t?!� Palmon shrieked. �I mean we can�t because these ruins are far to big, and we�ll only get lost ourselves!� Izzy said pacing back and fourth. Palmon watched him walk back and fourth and it wasn�t helping. �WHAAA� Palmon cried and cried. Izzy leaned down and put his hand on her shoulder. �Now, now. Dry your eyes, maybe the second half of that wall there may have something about these ruins. It�s downloading right now.� Palmon sniffled and ran he hand across her eyes. �What if it doesn�t?� �Well it�s worth a shot, right? Now come on, we�ll see how much it has to go.� With that Izzy picked Palmon up and gave her a piggyback ride over to the laptop. It was already done downloading, the second half displayed in English on the screen.

WRONG!� Mimi screamed. Tentomon could only take so much and the mercury was rising. �WHAAA� Mimi continued. That was it, the thermometer broke. Tentomon turned around, face to face with Mimi.   �That�s quite enough from you young lady! Please just�� Tentomon struggled to think of something to say that would have affect on Mimi. �HUSH!� Mimi watched as Tentomon turned his gaze back on to the corridor. Hush?� Hmmm, ha ha� HA! All of a sudden Mimi burst out laughing, uncontrollably. �I fail to see what�s so funny,� Tentomon said turned around facing Mimi again. �HUSH!� Mimi managed to squeak out between her giggles. �Wh-what is that supposed to do? HUSH! Ha ha ha ha!� �What?� Tentomon said as he cocked his head to one side staring at the strange girl. Then he to started laughing. �Heh, heh I guess it wasn�t that threatening was it? Heh, heh!� The two just stood there laughing as the minutes ticked by and the shadows licked their heels.

�PRO-PRODIGIUS!� Izzy squeaked as he gazed at his screen. He was in such a hurry to check out his discovery he though his feet out in front of him and crashed to the floor in front of his laptop on purpose. It hurt, but who cares! Izzy let his eyes have a field day on the screen, as they ran up and down it. After a few seconds thinking he figured out what it was. �It�s a map of the ruins Palmon, come see!�� Palmon?� She wasn�t on his back anymore. �I�m over here� Palmon called groggily. Izzy turned to see her on the floor behind him. �What a� yah doing?� Izzy asked. Palmon looked up, mad. �When you dropped down in front of your computer, I feel off!� Izzy smiled a forced smile. �Sorry, but come see!� Palmon jumped to her feet, not really hurt at all and looked at the screen. So this is the map of these ruins? Where�s Mimi?� Palmon asked. �That�s a very good question, I don�t know where to start� Izzy said, his hands hovering over the keyboard.

Then his digivice started reacting, beeping wildly. Izzy detached the device from his belt and held it in his hand. The closer it got to the computer the louder and faster the beeping got. Izzy observed this with great percussion. He forced his digivice up against the computer screen. A light appeared between the device and the screen for a split second. When Izzy removed his digivice from his laptop screen, a small dot was slowly travailing across the map. Izzy was wowed by this but his concentration was broke when his digivice started talking. �Is this the way?� �We�ll never know unless we go!� Izzy knew these voices and so did Palmon, MIMI AND TENTOMON! �Did you here that, Mimi!� Palmon said with great excitement. �Yes, let me try something� Izzy said. He put his digivice to his mouth like you would a phone and tried to make contact.

�Is this the way?� Mimi asked. �We�ll never know unless we go!� Tentomon said. They looked down the corridor in front them. �Mmm This way maybe� Tentomon said. �HELLO!� Mimi and Tentomon jumped. Mimi regained her posture and glared at Tentomon. �Now cut that out!� She said. Tentomon stood up to her. �That wasn�t me!� �IT WAS ME, YOUR DIGIVICE MIMI!� Mimi looked as if she�d seen a ghost. She looked down at her digivice, which was still strapped to her bag. �I-I didn�t know it could talk� She said. �NO NO NO! IT�S ME, IZZY!� �And me, Palmon!� Mimi was much happier about her digivice talking now. �Izzy, Palmon is that you?� �Yes and I have wonderful news, the second half of the wall was a map of the ruins and my digivice is showing me your current location! Just follow my instructions and you�ll be out of there in no time!� Izzy explained. Mimi and Tentomon celebrated. They then prepared themselves for instructions. �Okay� Izzy said. �Follow the corridor to the third door way on the left.� Mimi and Tentomon did as they were told. �Now, enter the room, it shouldn�t have a floor.� They followed Izzy�s instructions but the room they found had a floor. �Umm it has a floor, Izzy� Mimi said in to her digivice. �Hmmm� well� hold on let me think�� Mimi and Tentomon waited for a moment or two. �Okay, Tentomon hold on to Mimi�s shoulders and Mimi- - I can�t stress this enough, be careful. I need you to edge around the room, hugging the wall, okay?� Mimi was a little scared but she agreed to do it anyway. She slowly began to edge around the room.

�There they go� Izzy said as he watched the dot slowly, very slowly travel around the room. Palmon watched, her whole body was tense. Then she noticed another dot on the screen. �Hey what�s that� she asked. Izzy looked at where Palmon was pointing on the screen. �Oh� OH!� Izzy franticly reached for his digivice. �Mimi, Tentomon, your being followed!� He yelled in to the device as the dot got closer and closer to her and Tentomon.

�Oh, we made it!� Mimi said as she stretched her arms above her head. Then her digivice started beeping like crazy. �I wonder what�s so important?� Mimi said as she lazily reached for the little machine. She put it up to her ear just in time to hear �- -YOU�RE BEING FOLLOWED!� �What!?� Mimi screamed in to it. Tentomon turned around in time to see someone in the doorway across the room, red eyes. �GO MIMI, RUN!� Tentomon screamed. The red eyed figure bounded after them. When he landed in the middle of the room, the floor gave way. But the stranger was to fast and was already across the room by the time the floor disappeared.

�AGRAHH� Mimi screamed the thing that was following them was practically breathing down her neck. She and Tentomon turned a corner and in to a room which was a dead end. Mimi and Tentomon flattened themselves against a wall and the stranger Digimon closed in on them. �WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR- -GET BIGGER!� Mimi screamed at Tentomon. �I can�t when I�m away from Izzy!� Tentomon panted. �Oh great� Mimi squeaked as the enemy pounced.

Mimi closed her eyes tight and screamed with all her might. �NOOOOOOO!� �Poison Ivy!� �Arah!� Izzy and Palmon pushed their way thought the hard stone wall. Izzy panted obviously agsusted from doing something. �Mi� Mimi run� TENTOMON DIGIVOLVE!� Izzy jerked his digivice from his belt so it could work it�s magic on Tentomon. �You got!� Tentomon said. �Tentomon digivolve to� KABUTERIMON!� Kabuterimon was more then ready for his second debut and attacked his and Mimi�s attacker. �ElECTRO-SHOCKER!� It hit the enemy on target, but it would have to take more then that to defeat him! Mimi rushed over to Palmon and Izzy. �Palmon, how�d you get here!?� Palmon shook her head back and fourth. �It was all Izzy�s doing, he got us here.� Mimi turned to Izzy who was on one knee. �Thank you- -hey are you okay?� Mimi said. Izzy looked in to her worried eyes. �Yeah Mimi, I�ll be fine, jus� gotta catch my breath.� Mimi looked at Palmon. �How did you two get here?� she asked with a worried tone in her voice but she was totally serious. Palmon nodded and explained it all.

�We saw a second dot on the screen and knew something was very wrong, so Izzy quickly warned you guys and he rushed me out of the room we where in and outside. We ran along ways and finally we stopped at this one wall, Mimi. I tried my Poison Ivy over and over but I barley put a crack in to the wall. Izzy suggested we attack the wall together and I reminded him he wasn�t a Digimon and he said he knew that, so I used my Poison Ivy and Izzy ran and bashed in to the wall. We must a done that fifty times, Mimi! We heard you scream and I used a lot of my strength in one last Poison Ivy and Izzy used the rest of his strength in one last blow to the wall and we made it though!� �Whew� Palmon caught her breath from all that explaining. Mimi was on the verge on tears- -again. She looked at bruises and bloody cuts up and down Izzy�s arms. �Oh thank you Izzy and Palmon!� She cried. Izzy looked at her, he found it easier to show compassion for Mimi�s tears more now then in the past. �It�s okay Mimi, don�t cry. Besides I came here to make sure you won�t have anything to cry about.� Mimi just couldn�t stop. �I�ll try Izzy, thank you.� Then a blast hit the ground right near them, forcing them in the air. They landed without much pain or difficulty. Mimi reached for her digivice. �It�s time Palmon!� �Gotcha Mimi! Palmon digivolve to� TOGEMON!� Togemon quickly joined the fight. �NEEDLE SPRAY!� Mimi grabbed Izzy by the arms. �Come on Izzy, we gotta move!� she pleaded. �I can�t� Izzy said with a little fear in his voice.

�What- -tell me what�s wrong!� Mimi said. She tried to lift Izzy to his feet but she could not. Izzy�s face tensed up in pain as she tried to help him to his feet. �I- -I can�t Mimi, I�m to weak.� �No, you�re hurt!� Mimi said as she struggled to think of something.   Kabuterimon�s energy supply was low and he was forced to dedigivolve. Tentomon flew over to Mimi and Izzy. �Please try to stand Izzy.� Izzy sighed. �I�ve tried...� �Heads up!� Togemon yelled. The enemy fired its attack. �SOLAR BLAST!�   �ARAAH!� Mimi was forced to push herself out of the way. Tentomon did the same on instinct, leaving Izzy alone in the line of fire. �ARAAAAH!� Izzy screamed throwing his hands up in front of him in an X position. He still had his Digivice in his hand. It shot out a beam of light and blocked the enemy�s attack. Izzy looked at his hands. I�m not dead� heh, heh. I�M NOT DAED! Izzy smiled a kind of forced smile and fainted. The dust cleared and Mimi saw Izzy on the floor, eyes shut and she feared the worse. �NOOOO!� Tentomon ran over to his fallen partner. �Izzy� can you hear me? Please wake up.� Mimi shot to her feet and stomped over to where the enemy was, tears streaming down her face. �HOW DARE YOU DO THAT TO MYFRIEND!? HUH?� Mimi remembered what her digivice had done to Sukamon and Chumon in the forest. �TAKE THIS!� she shouted and shoved her digivice up in front of the enemy�s face. It reared back in pain. All four of it�s legs kicking wildly. Mimi showed no mercy.

�NOW TOGEMON!� Togemon showed no hesitation. �LIGHT SPEED JABING!� She punched the centaur Digimon in the back, where the black gear was and destroyed it. Mimi watched, her face still gleamed with a deep and terrible rage until the Digimon returned to its natural state of mind. When it did Mimi rushed over to Izzy.

�Are you okay?� Mimi sobbed. Izzy opened his eyes and saw Mimi, Tentomon, Palmon, and the enemy staring at him. He didn�t panic though, If Mimi, Palmon and Tentomon were that close to the enemy, the black gear must have been destroyed. The four helped Izzy to his feet, but he was still in a lot of pain. They decided it would be best if they gave Izzy time to regain his strength. The former enemy, who reviled himself as Centaurumon, took this time to explain the mysteries of the digivice. �I am the sage of the Dino Ruins, ruins built to honor the legend of the digivice and their keepers. The digivice is something that is written down in our history because of its purpose, to protect the soldiers of the Digital World. Since you each hold a digivice, I believe you and the friends you talk about are the soldiers the legends talk about.� This was valuable information, and it also raised a question from Mimi. �When you attacked Izzy, his digivice protected him. Does that mean we don�t need our digimon to protect us?� She asked. �No the only reason my attack didn�t kill him is because I�m the sage of the Dino Ruins, I can not kill a person who holds a digivice. Centaurumon inquired about the digivice until sundown.

Tentomon had made some crutches out of the bamboo that grew out side the ruins for Izzy. He didn�t need them, it was his arms that hurt, but it was the thought that counts. Mimi, Izzy, Palmon, and Tentomon left with a renewed hope for the Digital World. The sky was a beautiful scarlet red with fluffy pink clouds. The group traveled along the side of the island.   Izzy was still thinking about the black gear that was spinning in the floor of the temple. Devimon must have a black gear on every square inch of the Digital World. He was glad he told Centaurumon about it, so he could destroy it. �Hey Mimi, romantic sky isn�t it!� Mimi looked over at the adjacent island. Sukamon and Chumon were bouncing after them on the edge of their island. �Friends of yours?� Izzy asked Mimi. �Araagh!� Mimi grumbled to herself. Chumon blew a kiss to Palmon. �I haven�t forgotten about you, my little digi-cutie!� Palmon shuddered involuntarily. Mimi nodded in Palmon�s direction and she nodded back. They used one figure to lower the skin beneath one of their eyes down and stuck out their tongues. �NAH!� Sukamon and Chumon watched Mimi, Palmon, Izzy and Tentomon run off. �Mimi� honey?� Sukamon called. �CALL ME!�
