| Chapter 5 Not so tough Two weeks had passed, and Tai had lead his group in and out for many minor problems, nothing a champion Digimon couldn�t handle. They had run in to phone booths in the middle of a desert oasis. Joe tried calling home, no answer, not even a ring. Then he tried calling a ton of other numbers and still no ring, no answer. The group expiated the fact (as hard as it was) that the booths had no purpose and dragged an over confident Joe away from them. Another week passed and they made no progress in defeating Devimon. The sun had all ready begun to fall and the group stopped at the foot of what the Digimon called �Everlasting Peak.� Joe looked up at what seemed to be an unclimbable mountain. �If we were to reach the top of that mountain, we would be able to plan a route so we know where we were going� he said to himself. �Hay, that�s a great idea Joe, lets go!� Tai said. No one seemed to disagree and they started up the mountain. No one except Matt. �We can�t climb that thing in the dark!� he protested. Tai strongly disagreed. �If we don�t Devimon will just be one more step ahead!� �If we start climbing now and get caught in the dark and get attacked, we won�t even have to worry about Devimon!� Matt shot back. �That�s it, you�re ask�n for it!� Tai growled. �You take the initiative in all our group events and I think its time for a change!� Matt growled back at him. �WELL I THINK YOUR FACE NEEDS A FEW ADJUSTMENTS!� Tai said as he clenched his fists. �YOU COULD USE A FEW ADJUSTMENTS YOUR SELF!� Matt said as he took the first swing. It hit Tai right in the face. Tai took no hesitation in jabbing Matt back in the stomach. They weren�t going to stop until it was over; a leadership role was at stake. �Matt please stop� T.K. said as tears rolled down his face. �YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF YOUR SELFS!� Mimi said as she hugged T.K. in her arms. �We won�t get very far this way!� Izzy said. Agumon and Gabumon tried to persuade them to stop without getting in-between the fists. Joe watched as his friends gave each other black eyes, bloody noses, huge busies and bloody knuckles. �That�s it� Joe said as he stepped up close to the ragging fight. �Look at yourselves, how are any of you going to lead us if you can�t even walk, much less see anything!� Joe said with his voice a little shaky. �Stay out of this!� Tai and Matt screamed and they both punched Joe in the face. He fell straight back and rubbed his face where he had been hit. Real smooth Joe. Now Sora had had enough. �ENOUGH! LOOK AT YOURSELVES! NEITHER ONE OF YOU DESERVE TO BE LEADER! YOU�VE JUST PROVEN THAT YOUR UNCAPALBLE OF TAKING ON SUCH A ROLE! TAI, YOU SHOULD HAVE RESPECTED MATT�S IDEA AND SHOULD HAVE TRIED TO WORK SOMETHING OUT! AND YOU MATT, YOU SHOULD HAVE TOLD TAI YOUR IDEA IN A MUCH BETTER MANNER, JUST LOOK AT WHAT YOU�VE DONE TO T.K.! AND LOOK AT JOE, HE WAS TRYING TO HELP! With that Sora sat down to catch her breath. Izzy came over to see if she was all right. Matt walked over to T.K., and crouched down in front of him. �I�m sorry T.K., are you all right?� �I�m not the one you should be apologizing to� T.K. said as he wiped away the tears. Tai helped Joe up. �I�m sorry Joe, are you alright?� �I barley felt it� Joe lied. �Hmph, I think Sora should be leader from now on,� Mimi said. �That�s an intriguing idea Mimi� Izzy said. �I�m not the one for the job,� Sora said. �Those two will just have to set aside their differences.� Tai walked over to Matt. �I�m sorry man, I should have tried to work something out, like Sora said.� �I�m sorry to, I shouldn�t have demanded that we all do what I say, I should have asked you in a better way like Sora said,� Matt apologized. �How was that Sora?� Tai asked. �Good, only leave out �like Sora said!� The group had decided to stay at the foot of the mountain for the night, but at dawn they would start climbing. Thanks to Joe�s med-kit, Tai and Matt should be up to tomorrow�s challenge. He was glad his med-kit had played a role in fixing today�s problem, but Joe wasn�t happy with the fact that he was the only one who didn�t play a part today. Sora had done more then enough, Mimi had soothed T.K., and she had came up with the idea that Sora should be leader, Izzy in-forced that idea, and T.K. had lead to Tai and Matt apologizing to each other. Joe thought of a way he could he could prove himself. First he took a stick and wrote a message in the sand, saying that he would return by morning and then started up Everlasting Peak. Joe wasn�t that far up the mountain when he heard a voice behind him. �Where are you going Joe?� The voice belonged to Gomamon. �Gomamon what are you doing here?� Joe asked in surprise. �I woke up and you were gone, so I figured that you went up the mountain� he said. �Did you not see the message? Just go back to camp.� Gomamon swished his head from side to side. �No.� �Now!� �Nope.� �Please?� �Not gonna happen.� Joe gave up. �Okay you can tag along.� �That�s more like it� Gomamon said. They had made quite a bit of progress when Gomamon spotted a flying Digimon close by. Not forgetting about the threat of the black gears, he and Joe quickly found a hiding place. The flying Digimon landed and began to sip on some water that had collected in a hole formed in a rock. �There�s nothing to be a feared of. That�s Unimon, a wise old Digimon who doesn�t talk much� Gomamon said. Joe could see where Unimon got his name, it looked like a unionacorn with a helmet on that draped of its eyes. �I�m going to say hello� Gomamon said as he stepped out from behind the rock he and Joe were hiding behind. �No don�t� Joe hissed, but it was to late. �Hey Unimon, its me Gomamon!� Unimon turned towards Gomamon, suddenly the mountain began to shake and hundreds of black gears flew from inside of it. One of them affected Unimon, and he began to laugh. Gomamon backed away toward Joe. �You seemed so happy to see me Gomamon� Unimon said as he walked toward him and Joe. Tai woke up to see Sora crouched over something in the sand. �What are you looking at?� �Joe and Gomamon left to climb the mountain alone� Sora answered. �We should go see if we can find them before they run in to trouble� Tai said. Sora agreed and they woke only Agumon and Biyomon. �HORN BLASTER!� Unimon began his attack on Joe and Gomamon. Gomamon�s Rookie attack was useless on a flying Digimon. Joe saw the black gear in Unimon�s back when it flew low. The rampaging Digimon swooped down and landed on a cliff to regain its strength. Joe swallowed hard, looked down at the gear, stepped back, ran off the cliff, and landed on a very surprised Unimon. It flew way up high and tried to buckle Joe off. Joe hung on to the gear and pulled with all his might- -�Joe!� Joe looked down to see Tai, Sora, Greymon, and Birdramon. �What are you guys doing here, it�s not morning?� �We figured you could use a little help!� Tai called out. �You were sure right about that!� Joe called back to him. Tai watched Joe and Unimon, but Greymon nor Birdramon could attack with Joe on Unimon. Joe continued pulling on the gear but it just won�t budge. Gomamon watched from below and didn�t like what he saw. Joe�s grip was loosening on the gear. �Joe-Joe be careful!� Gomamon yelled with his eyes widening. I wish I wasn�t such a chicken, if I wasn�t I would be able to lift this thing. Joe felt himself let go of the gear all together, he felt himself try to grab on to again, he felt himself fall. �OH NO! JOE LET GO!� Tai cried. Gomamon watched helplessly. �JOE NO!� Well� almost helplessly. �GOMAMON DIGIVOLVE TO�IKKAKUMON!� Now in champion form, Ikkakumon leaned out and caught Joe on his back. �Whoa! Ikkakumon?� Joe said, over joyed Gomamon Digivolved when he had. �HARPON TORPEDO!� Ikkakumon unleashed his power full champion attack. It was a bulls-eye, and the black gear disappeared freeing Unimon. Tai, Sora, Joe, Agumon, Biyomon, and Gomamon continued to walk up Infinity Mountain. �I think its great you Digivolved to save Joe, Gomamon� Sora said. �That�s not why I did it� Gomamon said. Everyone looked at him puzzled. �It was just my time to Digivolve,� he said stubbornly. �Oh Gomamons blushing� Biyomon said. �I am not� Gomamon fussed. Joe laughed. �Chill, Gomamon you�re the best!� The six laughed for a good long while over the events of that day and what awaited them in the future. Tai, Sora, Agumon, Biyomon, Gomamon, and I reached the top of the mountain and we found�well nothing. But that�s only if you count the physical aspects of it. I came here to prove something and to find something I never lost�I discovered both on top of the mountain. I proved that you can be a hero, without being brave and I found a bound with Gomamon that was there the whole time. I found everything I wanted with nothing more hen being�me! |
