What is Awareness?

To be aware, to live in the moment, we first have to become the "Observer;" observing our thoughts and feelings as if we are taking a step back and watching a movie. The more conscious we become of the process, the easier it becomes.

Why does that scare us? Because being totally conscious, sentient beings is a big responsibility...which scares most of us. The only ones that had enough faith in their own divinity to give up their humanity were, of course, Jesus, John the Baptist, Buddha, and perhaps a couple of others I'm not even aware of...but, it means giving up our humanity...crucifying our personalities...beheading our egos; who wouldn't be afraid? So, why would want this in the first place? Because, the more consciousness we acquire, the more we can make choices not influenced by emotions, intellect, etc., but with our higher power/Christ Consciousness, i.e., totally conscious choices.

Including but not limited to: leaving our bodies at will, traveling to other places, times, dimensions, being conscious at the time of our death and having a say in our next experience, and ultimately becoming one again with the Godhead/Absolute/God, whatever you chose to call it...that is the goal and work of every human being and the reason for our existence.

What do we look for?

We look for thoughts and sensations in our five centers: mental, emotional, sexual, motor, and instinctive.

What do we look for in our Mental Center?

Listen to your mental dialog throughout the day...are there recurring thoughts, or even song lyrics that repeat? Or do thoughts just 'pop' into your head that you sense are not your own?

Take notice of the feelings in your solar plexis area (heart to navel)...are there feelings of tightness in the chest area...do you ever get a butterfly feeling?

What happens in your sexual center (below the navel)? Do you have sensations there when confronted with a thought or a visualization?

What can you observe about your Motor Center?

Do you ever get very animated, scurrying from one place to the other, jiggle your foot, shake, rush for the telephone?

What about our Instinctive Center?

Do you ever feel an intense need to move, run, or exercise...like your body's adrenalin is about to make you explode if you don't do something?

These are the the centers and sensations caused by the egos, or ego states that manipulate us (our beingness) like puppets. Once we become aware of them, we can slowly, gently begin to eliminate them. With every one we become aware of, and ask for divine help to eliminate it, the more consciousness we aquire...the more consciousness we have, the more aware we become.

The final outcome may take years or lifetimes, depending on how much effort we put into it...but in the end, we will be totally conscious, sentient beings, rather than puppets manipulated by the egos that enslave us. It is not an easy road; it is a narrow road, but worth the effort if we have faith that it is our Creator's intention for us. There are rewards...although in worldly terms, it may not seem so at times.

"In truth, we possess only about three percent of Consciousness, if we had even ten percent, wars would be impossible"...things that make ya go hmmmmmm.

Here is an exercise to increase awareness:

Thoughts on Awareness from Famous People:

Carl Jung on Self Awareness:

"Your vision will become clear only when you look into your heart. Who looks outside dreams, who looks inside, awakens."

With Self-awareness you redefine reality, according to truth.

The truth is, we are not human beings having a spiritual experience, we are spiritual beings having a human experience.

You can look beyond the body itself, and know yourself as a mind. And more than that, self awareness can lead you further into understanding that you are not a mind, either, but even more than that.

Who are we? As these conscious beings in this time and space, what do we represent?

Your awareness, can capture and observe and become aware of your 'beingness' in time and space - here and now.

We are conscious beings. We are consciousness itself. No other form of life has this capacity to witness its beingness. We are aware. This is a phenomenal gift and a phenomenal endowment we have.

We are beings of unity, of peace, of love, of joy. We desire love, we desire a perfect harmony, filled with peace, with joy, with connection...able to 'abstract' truths of unity, of peace, of love and of joy. Self awareness is the faculty that creates the deep internal knowing, of who we are authentically - beyond language, as an experience unlike any other... Experiencing self-awareness directly, in meditation, is one of the most incredibly profound experiences of one's lives.

St. Augustine on Self Awareness:

"People travel to wonder at the height of the mountains, at the huge waves of the sea, at the long course of the rivers, at the vast compass of the ocean, at the circular motion of the stars, and they pass themselves without wondering."

This is a good article on awareness; this is a quote from it: "Awareness is not only the tree that bows in the wind, it is the wind, and it is the bowing. It is the Sun pouring its heart out. Awareness is the source of its own energetic display pure activity." Here is the link: http://web.mac.com/terraist/iWeb/Terraist/Book.html
