DOG PATCH AIRLINES
DPA was the nick name bestowed upon those intepid air crews that flew out of Dicky Goober Airplane Patch, (otherwise known as Richards-Gabaur Air Force Base, Kansas City, Missouri. I have many memories, some good, some scary, a few bad  of those DPA C-119 Flying Box Car flights. The only "modern" troop transport that required all passengers to wear parachutes (with one engine out a C-119 had the glide ratio of a rock).
Although never on flight status, I managed to see a lot of the world in a variety of aircraft. Some of those models are still flying.  Sadly many will never see flight again. Most will date me as an old timer vs the all jet trash haulers now in service. However, there is something to be said for those piston engined AC and believe me there were times when a lot was! Those days had their thrills and chills, experiences that were frightening, wonderful, some deadly boring, but never dull. I enjoyed every minute of them!
