Hitz's License Application

Friday November 24 was a big day for Hitz FM. It was the day they lodged their application for a full time licence. It's technical name is an "ABA 32" form. The 85 page document with many thousands of petitions and letters of support was delivered to the Sydney office of the Australian Broadcasting Authority (ABA) on Friday afternoon.

After the ABA has read through the submissions it is likely that there will be public hearings. It is a formal environment, similar to a court room. Once the presentation is over the ABA will ask the Hitz team questions.
The questions are generated from the application and submission as well as the history of test broadcasts.

Submissions and letters of support from rival applicants, interested parties (which include other stations, community groups as well as our members and volunteers) will also raise questions for us to answer during the hearing. The public hearings will probably take place in May 2001.

It is important that Hitz FM shows the ABA how much young people support Hitz. For this reason the more members that come along to the hearings, the better. It is also a great opportunity for you to see part of the process first hand.

There may be questions asked of Hitz that they can't answer at the hearing. There may also be other Issues that they want to bring to the attention of the ABA. These can all be included in the final written submission which the ABA asks the station to submit soon after the public hearing.
