Doreid Lahham is one of Syria’ s most interesting and famous actors and directors.. his plays are also famous in other countries and he has travelled to Canada ,the USA,Europe , Africa and most of the Arab countries . Born in Damascus in 1934, Doried Lahham was the seventh of ten children in a poor family .
But the boy was very talented . He went to university to study chemical sciences. While he was there , he also practised music and acting and spent time helping people who cannot see well He was still a student when he won the Jordanian Kaukab medal for acting in 1956. He stayed at university and worked as a professor , but his passion was always the arts . He later made nine television series , seven plays and 27 cinema films . His most important film was The Borders ; in 1985, the film won an award from the Organisation of Film Critics in Egypt .
Lahham used the money from his plays to help charities that look after children .
One of his most successful films was Kafroun , which won a prize at Cairo’ s first international festival of children’ s cinema .
because he is experienced at working with children .Lahham also works for the children ‘s organisation
UNICEF . Children are very important to him .
He is married with three childreen and seven grandchildren .
