ravine saab - volunteers
Ravine
Saab Collective are currently seeking volunteers from anywhere in the world to
come and work at the farm. You will have to pay your own air fare and have
about £100 in case you need to change your return flight. All food will be
provided on the farm. Food will be basic but high-quality, vegetable-based, and
mainly using ingredients from the farm and the forest. You will have to provide
your own toiletries and luxury items, but natural alternatives are available to
many synthetic products. There are mosquitoes but, as far as we know, no
malaria, and vaccinations are not necessary. Accomodation at first will be in
tents and we hope to build more sustainable dwellings in the first few weeks.
The first volunteers from England are flying out at the beginning of November.
Volunteers
will be expected to work for the collective until lunchtime and are then free
to pursue their own projects. The first job will be to build huts, possibly
from bamboo. Around Christmas time we will be harvesting oranges and
grapefruit.
The
climate is hot and damp. You will need wellies, old work clothes, sheet
sleeping bags, mosquito nets, plus camping equipment such as oil lamp,
solar-powered torch, etc. Farm, seeds, tree saplings and other items for the
project will be bought by the collective.
The
financial aims are as follows: (1) to employ local workers sustainably at a
fair wage; (2) return on investments; (3) re-invest in the project.
Life
and work will be fairly tough and basic.
We
are particularly seeking volunteers with skills in sustainable construction and
mechanics.
