  BRAHASPATI

 

The name Brihaspati is proverbial for intellect. He is also called ‘Vachaspati’, an expert in the art of speaking with tact. All knowledge was his province. Brihaspati was the second son of sraddha and angiras. Brihaspati taught that even enemies should be conquered by good words. Anger and enemity are bad qualities. Anger, fear and joy must be suppressed in the mind. Sage Brihaspati was the lover of good cows. By worshipping the cows, one would get all one’s wants. Sage Brihaspati has revealed the “knowledge of self” which is called ‘The Brihaspati Gita’. He is also a law giver, he has codified a number of laws, and taught them to Indra. All of them comprise “Brihaspati Smriti”.

 

   DURVASA

 

Durvasa was the offspring of Anusuya and Atri. He was also the result of the boon given by the trinity Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva to Sati Anusuya. He was born with the grace of God Shiva. He had a great spark of God Shiva. It was said that King Hyhaya caused obstruction to the birth of the child to Anusuya so he lived for seven days in her womb and came out as the personification of anger in the form of Durvasa. At once, King Hyhaya was burnt to ashes by his anger. Durvasa was initiated into the study of the Vedas by his father, Atri. He took leave of his parents went into the forest, built a hermitage to himself and began to do great penance. Alone with avowed celibacy, he became a happy wonder to the entire world, at any moment with any form he liked to choose. He was a terror to everybody. His curse as well as his blessings had instantaneous effect.

 He married Saint Ourva’s daughter Kandali, under the pretext of his wife’s disobedience he vented his anger and she was burnt to death. He then immortalized her by creating Kandali; the plantain tree from the ashes. It is Durvasa, who helped Lakshmana regain his original shape. Durvasa visited Rama’s palace Lakshmana was standing guard while Rama was speaking to Yama. When Durvasa, insisted that he should meet Rama immediately, Lakshmana went to Rama and earned his anger. The enraged Rama, banished him from his sight and Ayodhya. Thus Lakshmana returned to his original form Adisesa. Once Durvasa visited king kuntibhoja. During that period kunti his daughter served Durvasa and won his heart by her sincere service. The pleased saint granted a boon by which she could beget a son from the God she chose.

 Saints like Durvasa are eternal. They do not belong to a particular period in history. By their Yogic powers they became immortal. They lives during sri Rama in the Tretayuga and dwapara yuga they transednd time, place, space and everything thousands and thousands were Durvasa’s disciples. He taught them the great truths of spiritually. He traveled all the worlds over. He saved thousands, purified thousands wished well of millions. He gave the world of devotees, the armour of Shiva, by reading it with pure and sound mind one would attain anything and everything.

 

 

  AURANYAKA

 

Among the pure minded devotees who attained salvation simply by repeating faithfully the name of lord Sri Rama, Aruanyaka occupies the highest place. Aruanyaka was named thus, as he was perpetual dweller of the forest, and knows nothing but forest. To beget a glorious son like Auranyaka his parents must have been great devotees of Lord Rama. Auranyaka says that there are unnumerable ways of attaining salvations but the easiest and the surest is the spell of “RamNam”, and it is the great secret revealed by the scriptures and the sciences. Auranyaka was the expounder of the efficacy of the great name of Lord Rama, the emancipator of the world bound.
